Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a super weekend! We have snow now, so please make sure that you are dressed for the weather.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Wednesday. Don't forget to bring your book back so you can get another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. Our spelling words focus on the long /a/ bossy /e/ vowel sounds and the word work is on this too. In Math we are working on place value up to 50 and counting by 2s to and from 40, 10s to and from 100 and 5s, to and from 100. We are still working on our organization trait, so our writing focusses on that. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on your log sheet.

Christmas Dinner - Our school Christmas Dinner will be on Wednesday December 14th.  If students would like to have the dinner they must pre-order by Friday December 9th. The cost is $5.00.

Class Project With Texas - We met with our friends on Friday. Eria, Kierstyn, Katelyn and Lana did a wonderful job as the weather and class reporters and poetry reader. They had a great Thanksgiving holiday. We are working on their Christmas cards and will mail them out this week.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a fun weekend! It's time to dig out those hats and mittens. The days are getting colder, so please make sure that you are dressed for the weather and bring your hat and mittens each day.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Library day is on Wednesday. Make sure you bring your book back, so you can take out another one.

Skating - Our first skating day of the year is on Tuesday November 29th. Ice time is from 9:25 - 10:05 AM. Students will need skates and helmets to go on the ice. If you do not have any, please let me know, as the school does have some extra pairs. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join us.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework is recorded in the orange folders. Our spelling words this week focus on the /ar/ sound in words and a review of the short /u/ vowel sound. Word work is on spelling words and the /ar/ sound. We are continuing with our work on place value and counting in different ways with math. In writing we are working on the organization trait, so the writing activity is based on this. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.  Use your strategies to help with your reading.

Book Fair - The Home and School is sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair this week in the school library. It is opened Mon - Wed from 9:00 - 3:00; Family Night is Wednesday November 30th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM; Thursday 9 - 12PM.

Hi Everyone!

Credit Union - Credit Union day is on Tuesday November 22nd.

Scholastic Book Orders - If you would like to order a book, please have your order form and payment in by Friday November 25th.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - Our Spelling words for this week focus on the short/i/ and /o/ vowel sounds, so our word work will work on this as well. We have started a new writing trait - Organization, so our writing activity for the week is working with that. In Math we are working on counting by 5s and using money to count by 5s also. We are working on counting by 2s up to 30 and backwards from 30 and finishing up with ordinal numbers. This week we are starting to work on place value for numbers up to 20. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on your log sheet. Make sure you are using the strategies we have been working on to help with your reading.

Class Project With Dallas, Texas - We met with our friends on Thursday. Whittney, Rowyn and Alissa did a super job as the weather and class reporters and poetry reader. Our friends are off this week to celebrate their Thanksgiving holiday, so our next meeting will be on Friday December 2nd.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and took some time to remember those men and women who fought for our freedom and who are still protecting Canada today. Please make sure you are dressed for the weather.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Library - Our library day is on Wednesday. Please bring your book back so you can get another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. Our spelling words this week focus on the /o/ and /e/ vowel sounds that say their own name like; me and go. In Math we are working on ordinal numbers and counting with money. Please keep working on counting forwards and backwards by 2s and 10s. We will begin working on 5s this week. More work is needed on blends, so the word work will focus on that. Please make sure you read your book each night, use your strayegies to help with unknown words and record your book on the log sheet.

Class Project With Texas - We connected with our friends on Thursday. Clare, Hannah and Cameron did a wonderful job as the weather and class reporters and poetry reader. They are still getting warm weather days down there. We finished our first letters to our pen pals and mailed them out on Thursday.

Report Cards - First term report cards go home on Tuesday November 15th.

Parent Teacher Interviews - These will take place on: Thursday November 17th from 4:00 - 6:30 PM and on Friday November 18th from 9:00 - 11:30 AM. I hope to meet with all parents to discuss your childs progress.

No School - There is no school for students on Friday November 18th.

Spirit Week - The school We Day Group is hosting Spirit Week during the week of Nov. 14th - 18th. Each day is a different theme day you can dress for. It cost a $1.00 to participate for the week and they are also collecting items for the Food Bank.

Monday - Hat and PJ Day

Tuesday - Favourite Decade Day - 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s 

Wednesday - Jersey - Favourite Team Clothing Day

Thursday - Twin Day - Dress the same as someone else.

Homework/ Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. This is a review week for our spelling, so there are 12 words. In Math we are counting with money and working with ordinal numbers. We are still working on blends with word work. Please make sure you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Remembrance Day Service - Our school Remembrance Day Service is on Thursday November 10th at 10:00 am. Please bring a donation for a poppy if you can.

Class Project With Texas - We met with our friends again on Friday. Isabel, Tyler and Novalee did a super job as the weather and class reporters and poetry reader. We are writing our letters to them and getting our parcel ready to mail out on Thursday.

No School - There is no school on Friday November 11th as it is Remembrance Day. Please take time to remember and honour those brave men and women who fought for our freedom and for those who are still serving our country today.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had fun trick or treating on Halloween Night! Just a reminder that if you bring in snacks for lunch and recess, check to see if they are nut free.

Homework/ Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. Our spelling words this week focus on the short /u/ vowel sound. In math we are working on counting with money. It would be good if you could practice at home using, pennies, dimes and nickles. This can help us count by 1s, 5s and 10s. We are also working with even and odd numbers. Our word family this week is /un/, you need to make different words with this by changing the beginning sound and we are working on vowel sounds. Please make sure you read your book each night and record it on your log sheet.

Collaborative Project With Dallas, Texas - We met with our friends again on Friday. Cameron, Novalee, Eria and Kierstyn did a great job as the weather and class reporters and poetry readers. This week we will start writing our individual letters to them.

I hope you had a great weekend! Please note that the weather is changing and the mornings are getting chilly. It would be a good idea to start bringing hats and mittens, so you have them if we need them.

In writing we are still working on the main idea and adding good details in our sentences. Make sure you begin and end your sentences the right way. Math is on counting by 2s and 10s forwards and backwards and even and odd numbers. Please make sure you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Class Project With Texas - We met with our friends on Tuesday. Whittney, Rowyn and Hannah did a super job as the class and weather reporters and poetry reader. We got our first letters from them and now we are getting ready to write our letters to them.

Please remember that when you do the writing activity we are working on the main idea and writing good details to go with it. Your sentences need to begin and end the right way. In Math we are working on counting by 2s and 10s forwards and backwards and ordering and comparing numbers. Students should be reading their book each night and recording it on the log sheet.

Class Project With Texas - Our friends in Ms. Sands class could not meet with us last week, so we will do our reports on Tuesday. We were excited to read their class letter. We finished our letter and sent it out on Friday. Now we are working on our writing about Thanksgiving in Canada to send them.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange notebook. Our spelling words this week focus on the short /i/ vowel sound. In Math we are working on ordering and comparing numbers to 20 and counting forwards and backwards by 2s and 10s. We are working on the ideas trait in writing. Having a main idea and writing sentences with good details. Make sure when you write to begin and end your sentences the right way.

Class Project With Texas - We met with our friends in Ms. Sands class on Tuesday. Alissa, Katelyn and Lana did a great job as the weather and class reporters and poetry reader. We planted our tulip garden on Wednesday. This is one of the activities we are doing with the project. We will be comparing our garden to the one they plant in Texas and others around the world. We are also getting our class letter ready to send to them.

Hi Everyone!

Phys.Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Library - Our library day is on Wednesday. Make sure you bring your book back so you can sign out a new one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folder. We will be working on the Grade 2 sight word list instead of a new spelling list as it is a short week. I will also be sending an extra sheet that you can keep at home to work on throughout the year. Please make sure that you are reading your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Math - We are finishing up our unit on patterns and will be starting on a new unit of Numbers to 100. You can work on counting in different ways by 2s, 5s and 10s at home.

No School - Thursday October 6th and Friday October 7th are Professional Learning Days for the teachers, so there is no school for students on these days. As well Monday October 10th is Thanksgiving and there is no school.

Terry Fox Walk - Our school will be holding the annual Terry Fox School Walk on Thursday September 29th at 1:00pm. Please bring $2.00 or a donation of your choice if you can.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - This week we will be starting with our spelling words. The focus is on the short /a/ vowel sound. We will be working on them each day at school, please go over them each night as well. Students should be reading their book each night and recording it on the log sheet. Math homework is on repeating and increasing patterns. In writing we are focussing on writing good sentences that tell a whole idea and have good details. Make sure they begin and end properly.

Class Project With Texas - This year our class will be participating in a Collaborative Project with St. John's Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas. This is the 11th year that our two schools have been working together. We have already met our partner class and did our first weekly repot using Skype. Isabel, Tyler and Clare did a super job as the weather report, class news and poetry reading. We will be meeting with our friends weekly and doing lots of activities throughout the year. Right now we are working on our class letter of introduction.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange notebooks. The students have a word work, writing or math sheet each night along with their list of sight words and their book to read. The homework is a follow up to what we are working on in class and the students should be able to complete it. If they are having trouble please let me know. It is very important that the students read each night and record their book on the log sheet.

School Credit Union Day - This will be on Tuesday September 20th.

Meet The Teacher - Our school Meet The Teacher evening will take place on Thursday September 20th, starting at 5:00pm in the cafeteria. After the meeting part, The Home and School will be putting on a BBQ. You can purchase a hotdog and a drink for $1.00. There will also be a jumping castle set up. During the evening you will also be able to place orders for school clothing. Looking forward to meeting with everyone!

Welcome To Grade 2!

We are getting settled into a new school year, class and routine! Please check back here weekly for class news and events that are happening or coming up.

Grandparents Tea

  The students have been working hard to prepare something special for their grandparents. Our annual Grandparents Day will be held on Friday September 16th at 9:00am in the school gym. After we finish in the gym, grandparents and guests are ivited to visit with us in our classroom.

Library - Our library day is on Wednesday, please return the book that the student borrowed in their library bag, so they can sign out a new one.

Hi Everyone!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - We have library on Friday, please make sure you bring your book back so you can get another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the green folders. Our reading comprehension and writing focus on Earth Day and how we can help the earth. Math is dealing with measuring using non-standard units with mass and there is a review sheet as well. The spelling this week is on /ing/ endings. For some words we have to drop the /e/ and add /ing/ and for others we have to double the last letter and add/ing/. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Math - We are finishing up our unit on measurement. Later this week we will be starting a unit on adding and subtracting to 100, with 2 digit numbers. Continued work on math facts and strategies at home will help with this.

Earth Day - Earth Day is on Friday April 22nd. We are asking all staff and students to wear blue and green in honour of our planet. Also to try and bring a litter less lunch on that day. We are trying to throw out as little garbage as possible. This week we are also focussing on what we can do to help the planet. We all have to do our part to take care of it.

Phys. Ed- Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Friday. Please make sure your book is back so you can get out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the green folders. Our spelling words this week focus on base words and word endings. We are working on measuring with non-standard units in math. The writing homework this week, is on the main idea -Spring. Students should have a good opening and ending sentence. Tell good details, use voice and word choice and make sure sentences begin and end properly. Remember that when you are doing the reading comprehension story to read carefully and use the strategies we have been working on. Students should be reading their Borrow-A-Book each night and recording their book on the log sheet.

Math - We are working on measurement using non-standard units. This week we will focus on measuring with 1 copy of a unit and measuring the distance around an object. Students can still be working on their math facts and strategies, as our next unit will be on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers.

Math Games - The K-2 students started bringing home math games last week. These will be sent home each Tuesday and they are to be returned on Thursday. This is a great way to work on math skills and have fun playing the games with your family.

Class Project With Texas - We are back to our weekly reports with our friends in Ms. Sands class. Ben, Hunter and Jayden did a super job as the weather and class reporters and poetry reader. We had news to share with them because our tulips emerged on April 6th! It was very cold when we went out to check and we couldn't believe that they could come up out of the frozen ground! Our friends were very surprised that we were still having snow. It was 29 C there last week!
