Hi Everyone!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Tuesday. Please make sure you bring your book back, so you can sign out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words this week focus on /ed/ word endings. The word work activity is on these words as well. We are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and are observing caterpillars in the classroom. The reading comprehension story is about the life cycle. Read carefully and find the answers in the story. Circle the right letter for your answer. In math we are using different strategies for adding 2 digit numbers and are starting work on subtracting 2 digit numbers. Let the students show you the strategies they use. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Caterpillars In The Classroom - We are seeing lots of changes with our caterpillars. Friday was Day 10 and we observed that they ate a lot and got a lot bigger. They have shedded their skin a few times already and are making webs too.

Literacy Assessment - The students are writing the district writing assessment. It is important that they are here on time each day, as we write in the morning during our Literacy Block.

Grade 7&8 Entrepreneur Fair - The Grade 7 & 8 students have created their own products and will be selling them in the gym on Friday May 31st. Students will be able to buy the products at the fair.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Tuesday. Make sure you bring your book back, so you can sign out another one.

Homework/ Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. This is a review week for our spelling so we have 12 words that we had before. There is a reading comprehension story, so make sure you read carefully, find the answers in the story and underline them and circle the letter for your answer. In math we have started working on addding 2 digit numbers, using different strategies and drawing out our work using tens and ones. Make sure you show your work. Please make sure you read each night and record your book on the log sheet.

District Literacy/Writing Assessment - The Grade 2 students will be doing their writing assessment this week beginning on Wednesday. It is important that students are present each day and on time. The assessment will be done in the mornings.

Bass Fishing Days - We had great fun learning how to fish on Monday. A big thank you to Mr. Fitzpatrick, the Grade 8 classes and their teachers and all the other volunteers who came out to help. We didn't catch any fish, but we had fun learning how to cast and reel in the lines. The biggest catch for us was a piece of wood and a pencil! Hopefully we will have better luck next time. Also we would like to say thank you to Mrs. Maloney and the Home and School for doing the BBQ.

Caterpillars In The Classroom - Our caterpillars arrived on Wednesday May 15th. They were very tiny, but can really move. We had a chance to observe them, and have a closer look with the magnifying glasses. By Friday they had already got a lot bigger and some have already shed their skin!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a fun weekend and all moms had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Tuesday. Make sure you bring your book back, so you can sign out another one.

Book Fair - The Spring Book Fair will take place in the library from Monday May 13th - Wednesday May 15th. It it open each day from 9:00 - 3:00 PM and Family Night is on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00PM.

Nelson Bass Fishing Days - Raider Cup - Our first annual fishing days at Nelson Rural School will take place on Monday May 13th and Tuesday May 14th. Each class willl have a chance to go out and fish bass. Our Grade 8 classes will be helping out the K-5 students and parents and other volunteers are welcome to come and join us. Our class will be fishing on Monday May 13th from 10:30 - 11:30AM. Please make sure you are dressed for the weather and wear boots. The Home and School will be putting on a BBQ - Hotdogs and hamburgers are $2.00 and Cheeseburgers are $2.50. Water is $1.00. If students do not want the BBQ, they will have to bring their lunch. Please note that there will be no cafeteria on Tuesday May 14th, so students will have to bring their lunch. We are hoping for good weather and a fun day of fishing!

For the reading comprehension story, make sure you read carefully, find the answers in the story and underline or highlight the answers. Circle the right letter for your answer. In Math we are starting work on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers. There is a review sheet on using strategies and adding to 20 and the other is on adding 10s. Using dimes to add tens. Start with the money in the bank and then add on the dimes. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Math Games - This will be our last week for the Math Games. Please take the time to play the game with your family and have fun!

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words this week focus on compound words and the word work activity is on this as well. We are still working on reading comprehension skills. Make sure you read the story carefully, find the answers in the story and underline or highlight it, then circle the right letter for your answer. Go back and re-read if you need to. In math we are working on measurement using non-standard units. We are working on mass, length, height and distance around. It is also important that students choose the right unit to measure with. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Math Games - Math games will go home on Tuesday and are due back on Thursday.

Book Fair - Our Spring Book Fair will take place May 13th - 16th in the library. This is a chance to get some great books and support our library.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday and Tuesday.

Library - Our library day is Tuesday. Make sure you bring your book back, so you can sign out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. As it is a short week, we will not have our spelling words. The students can work on the sight word list. Sight words should be read quickly without sounding out. In math we are working on measurement using non-standard units. Students will have a reading comprehension story to work on. Make sure you read carefully, find the answers in the story and highlight or underline the answer. Circle the letter for your answer. Remember to reread if you need to. Please make sure you read each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Math Games - Math games will go home on Monday this week and are to be returned on Wednesday.

No School - Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Thursday May 2nd and Friday May 3rd, as they are NBTA days for teachers.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. The spelling words focus on word endings. When we add /ing/ we drop the /e/ and add /ing/ and sometimes we have to double the last letter and add /ing/. The word work activity is on word endings. In math we are working on estimation. When we estimate we make a good guess of about how many we think there are. We are continuing with our work on reading comprehension. Read carefully and re-read if you have to. Find the answers to the questions in the story and underline or highlight and then circle the right letter for your answer. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Math Games - Math games go home on Tuesday and are to be returned on Thursdays. Have fun playing the games with your family.

Earth Day  - We will be celebrating Earth Day on Friday by asking staff and students to wear blue and green and to bring a litterless lunch. Our next unit in You and Your World will be about how we can help the environment, so we will be finding out about lots of good ideas and why everyone has to do their part.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words this week focus on word endings, adding /ing/ and /s/. The word work activity is on this as well. In Math we are working on equal and unequal and using the signs. We are doing more work on reading comprehension and have started working on multiple choice questions. Read the story carefully, find the answer in the story, underline the answer and circle the letter for your answer. Go back and reread if you need to. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Spring Spirit Week - This week is Spring Spirit Week. Students and staff are asked to show their school spirit by participating in theme days. Monday - Inside - Out - Backwards Day; Tuesday - Twin Day; Wednesday - Floral Shirt/Hawaiian Shirt Day; School Clothing/Colours Day.                                                                                                                           

Easter Holiday - No School - Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Friday April 19th and Monday April 22nd for the Easter holiday.

Yearbook - The last day to order yearbooks is on Thursday April 18th. If students are entering the cover contest for the yearbook, their entries must be in on this date too.

Math Games - We have started our Math Games at home. The first week was last Tuesday. The games will go home each Tuesday and they are to be returned on Thursdays.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words focus on /th/ words and the /oo/ vowel sound. The word work activity is with /oo/ words and the spelling words. In math we are working on equal and unequal and using the signs. Students will solve number sentences and then tell if they are equal or unequal. We continue to focus on reading comprehension, reading for details and uisng the pictures. Read the story and then answer the multiple choices questions. The answers are in the story. Read carefully. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Math Games - We will be sending home Math Games starting on Tuesday April 9th. Each students will bring home a Math Game to play with their family. The games will go home on Tuesday and are to be returned on Thursday. This is a good way to practice math skills and have some fun. Please make sure that all pieces for the games are returned in the bags.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a fun weekend! We still have lots of snow on the playground, so the students should still have their snowpants and boots, so they won't get too wet.

In math we are starting to work on equal and unequal. We continue to focus on reading comprehension, reading for details and uisng the pictures. Read the story and the answer the questions in complete sentences. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Report Cards - Report cards go home on Tuesday April 2nd. Please return the comment sheet signed in the envelope after you read the report.

Parent Teacher Days - Parent Teacher is on Thursday April 4th from 4:00 - 6:30PM and on Friday April 5th - From 9:00 - 11:30AM.

No School - There is no school for students on Friday April 5th.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a fun long weekend! There is still lots of snow on the playground, but it is melting and wet. Make sure you are dressed for the weather. Try to keep an extra pair of socks and mittens in your back pack.

Phys.Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Tuesday is our library day, so make sure you bring your book back so you can sign out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. This is a review week for our spelling words, so there are 12 words that we already had. The word work activity focuses on finding the missing word from each sentence. Read carefully, what word will sound right and make sense. In math we are working on measurement, using the caledar to problem solve and collecting data using pictographs. We are starting to focus more on reading comprehension. Reading for details and using all information, including the pictures, when we read. The students will have a reading for details activity where they have to use the picture to answer questions. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Kraft Hockeyville - Jersey Day - Friday March 29th is Jersey Day in support of the Renous Kraft Hockeyville. Students and staff are asked to wear a hockey jersey on this day. The committee is also asking everyone's support in voting for their bid to become the Kraft Hockeyville Rink for 2019. You can go online and vote at http://www.krafthockeyville.ca/. Voting starts on Friday March 29th at 1:00PM and continues until Saturday March 30th until 9:30PM. Vote as often as you can. Please help support this very worthy cause.

I hope you had a fun weekend! Please make sure you are dressed for the weather. With the temperatures getting higher and the snow melting it would be a good idea to keep extra socks and mittens in your bookbag.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. Our spelling words this week focus on two part words and /er/ endings. The word work activity is using these words too. In math we are using a calendar page to answer questions and using a pictograph to collect data and answer questions. Please make sure that you are reading each night and recording your book on the log sheet.

No School - Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Friday March 22, 2019 as it is a PLD for teachers.

100th Day of School - We celebrated our 100th Day of school on March 11th. We had lots of fun and did a lot of activities throughout the week around the number 100. We worked together with the K-2 students to try and collect 100 items for the Food Bank. We counted them together and we got 136 items. Thanks for your support with this activity. Our K-2 classes made a quilt of hearts entitled 100 Reasons Why We Love Our School! It is on the wall outside the Kindergarten classes, so stop by to see it if you get a chance. In our class we read 100 books together, brought in our 100 collections, made 100 Day posters, wrote as many words as we could using the words one hundred, made a castle together with 100 blocks and counted to 100 in different ways.

In math we are working on the calendar, the days of the week and months of the year and using the calendar to answer questions. We have a writing activity also - What happens next? You have to put an ending for the story and draw a picture to go with it. It is very important that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. The spelling words for the week focus on more than one and adding /s/ to the ending. The word work activity is on this focus as well. With the writing activity we are working on using voice in our writing. What would you do if a genie granted you 2 wishes? Add good details and voice. In math we are starting a new unit on measurement and using the calendar. Do you know the days of the week and the months of the year? This is something to work on at home too. Make sure you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Pink Shirt Day - Pink Shirt Day is on Wednesday February 27th. Students and staff are asked to wear pink to take a stand against bullying.

Spell-A-Thon Fundraiser - The test and pledge sheets will go home with the students on Monday February 25th so that they can collect any money owed. All pledge money is due back on Thursday February 28th.

100th Day Of School - We will be celebrating the 100th Day Of School on Friday March 1st, as long as there are no storm days. A memo was sent home on Friday, outlining some of the activities we will be doing. The students are asked to bring in a 100 Collection. As well the K-2 classes are hoping to collect 100 food items for the Food Bank. We ask students and staff to bring in a food item if they can. We will be working on lots of activities at school as well.

Spell-A-Thon Fundraiser - Just a reminder that all pledge sheets for the Spell-A-Thon are due back on Tuesday February 19th. The Spell-A-Thon will be held in each class on Wednesday February 20th. Please do your best to collect pledges and study your words. Good luck!!

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. We continue to work on our words for the Spell-A-Thon, so make sure to keep working on them at home too. The word work activity is with these words as well. The 6+1 Writing Trait we are focusing on is voice, so the writing activity is on using voice in writing. In math we are working on fact families and order in subtraction. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Spell-A-Thon Fundraiser - Just a reminder that the pledge sheets for the Spell-A-Thon are due back on Wednesday February 13th and the Spell-A-Thon will be held on Friday February 15th. Please do your best to collect pledges and study your words.

Valentine's Day - We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Thursday February 14th. Students can bring in their valentine's to exchange with their classmates. Each class will also be provided with a healthy snack on that day.

Flag Day - Friday February 15th is National Flag Day Of Canada. Our flag will be 54 years old! Students and staff are asked to wear red and white or Canada clothing on Friday in honour of our flag.

Family Day Holiday - Just a reminder that Monday February 18th is the Family Day holiday, so there is no school.
