Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and took some time to remember our veterans and soldiers who did so much for us.

The weather is changing, we had some snow and are expecting more this week, so make sure you are dressed for the weather.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Thursday, so make sure you bring your book back so you can sign out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folder. Our spelling words this week focus on /ar/ words and the word work activity is on this as well. We are working on collecting data in math, so there is a graph showing data collected. Students are to use this to answer questions. Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Credit Union - School Credit Union Day is on Wednesday November 13th.

Book Orders - Scholastic Book Orders are due on Wednesday November 13th if you would like to place an order.

National Jersey Day - Thursday November 14th is National Jersey Day in Canada. Students and staff can wear their favourite team or sport jersey.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folder. Our spelling words this week focus on the short /i/ and /o/ vowel sounds. The word work activity is on this as well. In Math we are working on identifying and comparing 3D shapes. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Remembrance Day Service - Our school Remembrance Day Service is on Thursday November 7th at 10:00 am. Please join us if you can. Students are asked to bring in a poppy donation if they can.

No School - There is no school for students on Friday November 8th, as it is a PL Day for teachers and on Monday November 11th, as it is Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day - Please take time to remember our brave men and women who fought for our country and our freedom. They are our heroes and we must never forget the sacrafices they made.

Spirit Week - Our first Spirit Week of the year is this week from October 28 - November 1. The Raiders Hat is up for grabs for the class with the most participation and wins with challenges. Show your school spirit!

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folder. It is a review week for our spelling words. There are 12 words this week and they are ones that we already had. In Math we are working on 2D and 3D shapes. Our word work activity is a Halloween theme using vowels and blends. Make sure you read your book each nigh and record it on the log sheet.

Pumpkin Carving Contest - Each class will be carving or decorating a pumpkin for Spirit Week. Students can also enter their own pumpkins in the individual category. There is a movie card as a prize for each level; K-2, 3-5, 6-8. You can bring in your pumpkin between Tuesday October 28th - Thursday October 31st.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a fun weekend! The mornings are getting colder so please make sure that you are dressed for the weather.

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day is on Thursday, so make sure you bring your book back so you can get another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. The spelling words focus on the short /u/ vowel sound and the word work activity is on this too. In math we are finishing up with odd and even and comparing and ordering numbers to 20. We are starting to work on 2D and 3D shapes and counting forwards and backwards to 40 by 2s and forwards and backwards by 10s. We are working on the ideas writing trait; Having a main idea, staying on topic and writing good details. The main idea is Halloween. Make sure you add good details and begin and end your sentences the right way. Remember to read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Book Fair - Our first Book Fair of the year will take place from October 21st - October 24th. It is open from 9:00 - 3:00 Monday - Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 - 12:00. Family Night is on Wednesday October 23rd from 5:00 - 8:00PM. It is a good time to buy some great books and help support our school library.

Halloween Dance - There is a dance for the K-2 students on Friday October 25th from 5:30 - 6:30PM in the cafeteria. Students can wear a costume if they would like. The cost is $5.00 and there is a canteen available.

Orange Shirt Day - Monday September 30th is Orange Shirt Day. Students and staff are asked to wear orange in honour of Residential School Children and in the spirit of reconciliation.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folder. Our spelling words this week focus on the short /i/ vowel sound. The word work activity is on the /in/ and /it/ word families. In Math we are working on the missing element in patterns and we are starting work on ordering and comparing numbers to 20. We are doing more work with writing detailed sentences, using pictures to help. Remember to begin and end your sentences the right way. Students should be reading their book each night and recording it on their log sheet.

Hi Everyone!

Field Trip - We will be going to Fletcher's Farm on Monday September 23 from 9:00 - 11:00am. We will be leaving the school @ 8:40am and walking up to the farm. The Students will be going through the corn maze, so please make sure they are dressed for the weather. No sandals or flip flops.

Terry Fox Walk - Our school will be participating in the annual Terry Fox School Walk on Thursday September 26th @ 1:00PM. Students are asked to bring in a donation if they can.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. This week we will be starting our spelling program. The students will have a list of words they will work on throughout the week at home and at school. The focus this week is on the short /a/ vowel sound and the word work activity focuses on this as well. We are starting to work on our 6+1 Writing Traits and looking at using pictures to add detail to our writing. For writing, students are asked to use the picture and write a detailed sentence to go with it. Make sure your sentences begin and end properly. In Math we are working on counting forwards and backwards by 1s, 2s and 10s and patterns. Students are asked to make a pattern using 2 attributes (in 2 different ways). Please make sure that you read your book each night and record it on the log sheet.

Grandparents Tea - The students did a great job with their show on Grandparents Day! We had a great turnout. Thank you to all grandparents, parents and other guests who attended.

Library - Our library day is on Thursday. Make sure you bring your book back so you can sign out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. We are continuing with our sight word lists. Please make sure you sign them once your child can say each side of the page and return them in the folder so we can send the next sheet home. In math we are working on patterns and counting in different ways. For word work, we are starting to work on vowels. We are doing a review first and then will start focusing on each vowel. The students are working on getting back into writing. We are forgetting about beginning and ending sentences properly, so the writing homework is on making sentences. Use the picture and write a detailed sentence that begins and ends the right way. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Field Trip - We will be going on a field trip to Fletcher's Farm on Monday September 23rd. A Memo will be going home this week with more information.

Meet The Teacher - Our annual Meet The Teacher event will be held on Thursday September 19th at 5:00PM. A memo will follow with more information.

Terry Fox Walk - Our annual school Terry Fox Walk will be held on Thursday September 26th at 1:00PM. The raindate is Friday September 27th.

Welcome To Grade 2!!!

I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing summer! We had a great first week to the new school year and we are looking forward to a super year in Grade 2!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this year are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Our library day will be on Thursday. The students will be able to sign out a book each week, that they can bring home. They have to return the book each week, so they can sign out another one.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - Our Homework and Borrow-A-Book programs will be starting this week. The students will be bringing home a book each night to read to someone. For homework this week we will have our sight word lists. When the students can read all words on the list without hesitation, return the sheet signed and we will send a new one home.

Agendas - Our school agendas are going home each night, so you can be updated on events or activities that are going on. As well, the students will be writing their homework in them each day. Please read and sign the agenda each night, so we will know you have received the information. There is also lots of information about our school, schedules, calendar and policies at the front of the agendas, so please take the time to read it.

Grandparents Tea - Our annual K-2 Grandparents Tea will be held on Friday September 13th in the gym. Grandparents are invited to join us on Friday. We will have a short program and then they can visit in the classrooms. If a grandparent can't make it we ask that someone else come for them. (Parent, aunt, uncle etc...). A memo will be going home on Monday.

Meet The Teacher - This will be held on Thursday September 19th at 5:00PM.

School Supply Fee/Student Agenda Fee - Just a reminder that the fee for school supplies for the year was $20.00 and the Student/Agenda Fee was $10.00. Please send this in when you can, if you have not already done so.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend! It is hard to believe, but it is our last week of school!

Phys.Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week will be reading. Please make sure that you read each night and record the book on the log sheet.

Sports Day - The K-2 Sports Day will be on Tuesday June 18th. We will be ordering pizza for lunch. If your child does not like pizza, they will have to bring their lunch as the cafeteria is closed on that day. It would be a good idea to apply sunscreen and bug spray on your child before they come to school. Students need to wear sneakers, thay can also bring a water bottle and a hat.

Field Trip - Our class will be going on a field trip to Beaubears Island on Wednesday June 19th. Students will need to bring their lunch on that day. Last Day Of School - Our last day of school is on Friday June 21st. Please note that this is a full day for students, with dismissal at our regular time.

We had a great year in Grade 2, had fun and learned lots of new things! I enjoyed teaching all of you! I wish everyone a fun, happy and safe summer!

Hi Everyone!

It is hard to believe, but there are only two weeks of school left!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - We had our last library day last Tiesday. All books should be returned. If you did not return yours, please get it in this week.

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words this week focus on the /ow/ word sound and the word work activity is on this as well. In math we are finishing up our work with subtracting 2 digit numbers and have started working on ordinal numbers. There is a reading comprehension story for this week as well. Read carefully, go back and reread, find the answers and underline them. Circle the right letter for your answer. It is very important that the students continue to read each night and record the book on the log sheet.

Sheree Fitch - We had a wonderful visit from author Sheree Fitch on Wednesday. She told us some stories, answered questions and gave us some good ideas to help with reading and writing. The students did some great art work in response to her book Pocket Rocks. Thanks for helping us with the Bedtime Reading Challenge!!

Credit Union - School Credit Union Day is on Tuesday June 11th.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend! It's hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks of school left!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Library - Tuesday is our last library day of the year. Please make sure that all books are back on this day.

Homework/ Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words this week focus on question words and there are also a few more words with /ed/ endings. In You and Your World we are finding out about life cycles and how plants and animals grow and change. We have started talking about how people grow and change too. The students are asked to make a timeline poster to show how they have grown and changed over the years. The poster pages went home with the students on Friday. This will be their homework for the week. It is a good chance to talk with your child and tell them how they have grown over the years. If you have photos the students could use, this would be good. If not, the students can draw the pictures for each event. The timelines are due back on Friday June 7th. If you have them done before this date, please send them in. Make sure you read each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Sheree Fitch Visit - Our school won the Literacy Bedtime Reading Challenge and we will have a visit from author Sheree Fitch on Wednesday June 5th. If you would like to pre-order one of her books to have signed, please have your order in by Monday June 3rd.

Jump Rope For Heart - Our school Jump Day will be on Friday June 7th,

Homework/Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. Our spelling words this week focus on /ed/ word endings. The word work activity is on these words as well. We are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and are observing caterpillars in the classroom. The reading comprehension story is about the life cycle. Read carefully and find the answers in the story. Circle the right letter for your answer. In math we are using different strategies for adding 2 digit numbers and are starting work on subtracting 2 digit numbers. Let the students show you the strategies they use. Please make sure that you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet.

Caterpillars In The Classroom - We are seeing lots of changes with our caterpillars. Friday was Day 10 and we observed that they ate a lot and got a lot bigger. They have shedded their skin a few times already and are making webs too.

Literacy Assessment - The students are writing the district writing assessment. It is important that they are here on time each day, as we write in the morning during our Literacy Block.

Grade 7&8 Entrepreneur Fair - The Grade 7 & 8 students have created their own products and will be selling them in the gym on Friday May 31st. Students will be able to buy the products at the fair.

Library - Our library day is on Tuesday. Make sure you bring your book back, so you can sign out another one.

Homework/ Borrow-A-Book - The homework for the week is listed in the red folders. This is a review week for our spelling so we have 12 words that we had before. There is a reading comprehension story, so make sure you read carefully, find the answers in the story and underline them and circle the letter for your answer. In math we have started working on addding 2 digit numbers, using different strategies and drawing out our work using tens and ones. Make sure you show your work. Please make sure you read each night and record your book on the log sheet.

District Literacy/Writing Assessment - The Grade 2 students will be doing their writing assessment this week beginning on Wednesday. It is important that students are present each day and on time. The assessment will be done in the mornings.

Bass Fishing Days - We had great fun learning how to fish on Monday. A big thank you to Mr. Fitzpatrick, the Grade 8 classes and their teachers and all the other volunteers who came out to help. We didn't catch any fish, but we had fun learning how to cast and reel in the lines. The biggest catch for us was a piece of wood and a pencil! Hopefully we will have better luck next time. Also we would like to say thank you to Mrs. Maloney and the Home and School for doing the BBQ.

Caterpillars In The Classroom - Our caterpillars arrived on Wednesday May 15th. They were very tiny, but can really move. We had a chance to observe them, and have a closer look with the magnifying glasses. By Friday they had already got a lot bigger and some have already shed their skin!
