  • Welcome back !
  • I hope you had a good weekend!
  • Our mornings are starting to get a little cooler, so please make sure you are dressed for the weather.
  • Please check back here each week to find out what is happening with our class.

Phys. Ed

  • Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Library

  • Our library day is on Tuesday.
  • Make sure you bring your book back so you can sign out another one.
  • Students need to have their book returned in order to sign out a new one.

Homework/Reading

  • Work on your words. Remember to use the sounds you know to help .
  • Once you know all the words, have someone at home sign the sheet.
  • Choose a book from the reading bag to read each night. Remember to sign the log sheet each time you read. Make sure you use your strategies to help with your reading.

Cafeteria

  • If your child is ordering , please write a note and put it in a bag or container.
  • Lunch orders have to be sent to the cafeteria by 9:00AM.

Water Bottles

  • Just a reminder to bring in a water bottle that you can refill and use throughout the day.

Spirit Week

  • Our first Spirit Week of the year is happening this week. October 23rd – October 27th.
  • Tuesday – October 24th – Black and Orange Day
  • Wednesday – October 25th – Plaid Day
  • Thursday – October 26th - Backwards/Inside Out Day
  • Friday – October 27th - Costume Parade/Assembly

Pumpkin Carving Contest

  • If you would like to enter Nelson Rural’s Pumpkin Carving Contest, see the picture below for details.
  • Carve your pumpkin at home.
  • Take a picture of it and e-mail to shana_olsen@hotmail.com.
  • Entries have to be e-mailed by Thursday October 26th.
  • The classes will then vote on them.

Secret Path Week – Downie/Wenjack

  • Our school will be taking part in Secret Path Week and making steps towards Reconcili-action.
  • We will be doing a Walk For Wenjack. Our school is trying to walk 69 kilometers during the month of October in honour of Chaney Wenjack.
  • If you can, please send in a donation in support of this.
  • On Friday, all students and staff are asked to wear purple.

Fire Prevention Week

  • This week is Fire Prevention Week.
  • The theme this year is – Pay Attention To Fire Prevention!
  • Please take some time to go over fire safety at home. Practice your home escape plan. Remember you should know two ways out and have a meeting place outside.
  • The Fire Safety Gazette is going home this week. If your child would like to go in the draw for Fire Chief For The Day, they need to bring back the form.

  • There is no school for students on Friday October 13th as it is a Professional Learning Day for teachers.

Terry Fox Walk

  • Our school will be taking part in the National School Terry Fox Walk on Wednesday September 27th.
  • Terry was an amazing Canadian Hero who made a difference in the lives of many people with his dream of running across Canada to raise money for Cancer research.
  • He ran for us, now we run/walk for him.
  • Please bring in a donation if you can.

Orange Shirt Day

  • We will be observing Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Friday September 29th.
  • Students and staff are asked to wear orange in honour of those children who are survivors of Residential Schools and those who didn’t make it home.

No School

  • There is no school on Monday October 2nd in observation of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

  • It’s hard to believe, but it is our last week of school!!

Library

  • Please return all library books if you have not done so already.

Reading Books

  • If you still have some of the reading books at home, can you please send them back.

Students Appreciation Fun Day

  • This will take place on Wednesday June 21st for all K-8 students.
  • There will be different activities throughout the day.
  • Lunch of hotdogs and chips will be provided, or your child can bring their own lunch that day. The cafeteria will not be opened.

Sports Day

  • The K-2 Sports Day was today, Tuesday June 20th.
  • The students were active throughout the day in 8 different events.
  • They really enjoyed their lunch too!

Cafeteria

  • The cafeteria will not be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of this week.
  • Students will have to bring their lunch Wednesday if they do not want hotdogs.
  • Students will have to bring their lunch on Friday.

Last Day Of School

  • The last day of school for this school year is on Friday June 23rd.
  • Please note that it is a full day and dismissal is at the regular time.

  • Spelling words for the week focus on /ight/ words. /igh/ says the vowel sound /i/.
  • We will be working on them at school and sending them home to work on for homework.
  • We will do a test on the words on Friday.
  • Please continue with our sight word sheets. Remember to have the Homework Helper sign the list when you know all the words.
  • The word work activity focuses on our spelling words. Use the /ight/ words to fill in the missing word in each sentence. Use each of the words in the box and write a sentence for it. Make sure to add good details and begin and end your sentence the right way.
  • In Math we are working on subtracting 2-digit numbers. The students have been using strategies that work best for them to help them subtract. Remember to show your work. How did you get the answer?

K-2 Musical

  • This will take place on Tuesday June 6th at 9:00AM in the Gym.

  • Spelling words for the week focus on /ed/ endings. When we add /ed/ to a word, we drop the /e/ and add /ed/.
  • We will be working on them at school and sending them home to work on for homework.
  • We will do a test on the words on Friday.
  • Please continue with our sight word sheets. Remember to have the Homework Helper sign the list when you know all the words.
  • The word work activity focuses on our spelling words. Circle the word missing from each sentence. Read the sentence with the word in it. Does it make sense and sound right? Match the word with the correct /ed/ ending. Pick 2 words ending in /ed/ and write a sentence for each one. Make sure to add good details and begin and end your sentence the right way.
  • In Math we are working on adding 2-digit numbers. The students have been using strategies that work best for them to help them add. Remember to show your work. How did you get the answer?

  • Spelling words for the week focuses on contractions. We use a special mark called an apostrophe when we write words like I’m or it’s.
  • We will be working on them at school and sending them home to work on for homework.
  • We will do a test on the words on Friday.
  • Please continue with our sight word sheets. Remember to have the Homework Helper sign the list when you know all the words.
  • The word work activity focuses on our spelling words. Write the contraction for the two words in each fish. Pick 2 contractions and write a sentence for each one. Make sure to add good details and begin and end your sentence the right way.
  • In Math we are working on increasing patterns and counting by 10s. We have started working on adding 2-digit numbers. The students have been using strategies that work best for them to help them add.
  • Choose one book from the reading bag to read each night. Use your strategies to help with the reading and record your book on the log sheet.

  • As this is a short week, we will be doing sight words and reading.
  • We will be back to spelling words and regular homework next week.
  • Sight Words – Do you know all the words on the sheet? Can you say them quickly? Underline or highlight the ones you don’t know and keep working on them. Remember to have the Homework Helper sign the list when you know all the words.
  • Choose one book from the reading bag to read each night. Use your strategies to help with the reading and record your book on the log sheet.

Book Fair

  • The Scholastic Book Fair is happening in the library from Monday May 1st – Wednesday May 3rd.
  • Students can go during the day with their class. Open from 9:00AM – 2:00PM.
  • Family Night – Wednesday May 3rd – 5:00 – 8:00PM.

NO SCHOOL

  • Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Thursday May 4th and Friday
