Take some time to browse the WE FaceBook page. This is a perfect way to get your daily reading in.

The above link can be found on a post on that page from Friday April 10th. From this link you can down load a free book called "Well-Being Play Book" This book is filled with ideas and concepts we have been working with all year and have heard before, it will not only provide review but reinforce what we have been learning.

Take time to read the book and complete the activities. This can be daily reading which you could do writing responses for. You could also do persuasive writing pieces on the importance of the ideas and concepts in the book like the importance of develop routine in our life, Why we should turn off our cell phones at night, the importance of sleep, why a proper diet is important, the value of helping others, there are certainly lots of persuasive writing ideas in the book!

You could also use the readings in the book as pieces to prove credibility using your checklist from Mr. Bosma’s page and send your proof to him. Don’t forget to back up what you are saying if you choose to do this.

Create a persuasive video to help others based on the concepts in the book. To do this you will need to read and do a little research on the topic, write a script and then do a video trying to persuade others to incorporate the healthy practice you have chosen into their lives.

Remember you are the best people to encourage healthy habits in our younger students ~they look up to you and what you say holds value to them.

Send me your videos and I will post them on our school web site.

Quarantine is providing us with the perfect opportunity to do for others. This is a time to be creative and to use social media to connect. I look forward to watching your videos. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me or send your drafts (written or video) if you want my input.

After watching my video someone may want to do a persuasive video on not touching our faces.

Possible topics from the book;

  • Get enough sleep / Creating routine in our sleep patterns

  • Get enough water

  • Eat well

  • Exercise

  • Connect to others

  • Unplug

  • Get outside

Possible Covid Good Practices to use as topics;

  • Wash your hands

  • Stay more than 2 m from others

  • Cough, sneeze into your elbow

  • Don’t touch your face

  • Stay home and practice social distancing

I know this isn’t everyone’s area of Mutiple Intelligence but it is an opportunity for everyone to grow and develop skills. If you choose to do a video and don’t want to share it that is ok too. I will only share videos with permission.

I wasn't able to get my video up here but it is on FB on the parent information page.

Take time to think about the essential workers in your life.

1. Make a list of as many people your know that are essential workers and what they do.

2. Pick a few to say thank-you to. You could

  • make a card
  • write a letter
  • draw some pictures
  • send a text
  • send an e-mail
  • shout out on FB
  • use your imagination

Remember to be clear in your message about why you are grateful, what it is they do and how they make your life better.

I added a picture of cards I did with my 2 and 4 year old grandchildren for their father who is a health care worker. My card has a longer thank you note.

Feel free to email me pictures of your creations.

Star Girl

This movie is based on the book by the same name by Jerry Spinelli.

Pay attention to Leo and Star Girls conversation in the dessert about "doing nothing". Give the pink eraser meditation tecqnique a try.

Try your hand at painting some rocks.

Go to your Teams page and discuss the movie. I will post a conversation starter.

Don't forget when going on to Teams you need to use

Hope all is going well and that  everyone is staying home and staying safe.

If you have an essential worker in your house be sure to thank them for what they do, if not call someone you may know to say thank-you. Don't forget that their is great healing power in gratitude.

Note to Parents

The important thing about the suggestions on this page is that they get your child thinking and talking

The “Greater Good Magazine” site has a lot of great information and the body scan meditation is very relaxing you may want to check them out as well

This is a stressful time for parents as well and we as teachers understand that and do not want to be adding to your plate. It is my hope that your child will be able to do the activities I suggest without your assistance but having said that they are wellness oriented and you may benefit from them as well, I know I am.

Day 1

We have talked about the benefits of journaling in class and I would like you to start a Covid-19 journal. This can take on many forms book, video, photo etc. or a combination of them all. Journaling is healing and mental health will be the focus of all the activities on my page. For today I would like you to read the article and answer the questions. Read the questions first so you can be thinking about them as you read. I realize that this activity is like Mr. Bosma’s so I by no means expect you to do 2 journal entries, just incorporate this in the journal entry you do for him. Mr. Bosma has set up a Teams page and you can discuss the questions on there as well.

Questions to think about as you read and to respond to in your journal.

How can we help each other during this crisis? What have you been doing to help? What have you been reading about others doing?

What does it mean to stay away from each other physically but still work together? How are we doing this?

There is a good 2 ½ minute video on the right-hand sidebar called “How to Clear Your Head” that you may want to watch.

The Body Scan Meditation is a great way to work on your focus practice.

The Greater Good Magazine is filled with information, you may want to take some time to browse through it.

Enjoy your day, the sun is shining and it is beautiful outside!
