Good afternoon!
Fletcher's Farm: I am so happy we are able to go to Fletcher's Farm tomorrow! We plan to leave the school around 8:30 to be there for 9. We will be walking, so please make sure your child wears comfy shoes. I suggest dressing them in old clothes as they will get dirty while playing. Also, keep in mind that it is supposed to be chilly in the morning so wearing layers may be best. We will have snack at the farm, but will be back for lunch.
Costume Parade: We will change into our cosumes after lunch for the parade in the gym. :)

This week, in the spirit of reconciliation, and in support and acknowledgement of Indigenous children who attended residential schools and never returned home, Nelson Rural School staff and students will be walking for Wenjack. We encourage our students to wear purple tomorrow if possible.

Due to rain we were unable to go to Fletcher's farm today. We will go on October 28. Let's hope for a "rain free" day!

Halloween Spirit Week will be Oct. 24 - 28th:
Pumpkin Contest! Students are invited to carve or decorate a pumpkin at home. If you choose to participate, carved/decorated pumpkins can be brought to school on the 24th or 25th (Monday or Tuesday) for display in our lobby. Our school population will vote on their 2 favorites at each level (one decorated and one carved) on Wednesday and Thursday.
Our annual Costume Parade will return this year. We will have a parade in the gym on Friday, Oct. 28th from 1:15-1:50. This is also the date for our trip to "Fletchers Farm". We will go there in the morning. Return to school for lunch, play outside for recess, then get changed into our costumes. They may have to wear their costumes home depending on time.
We are again encouraging no treats to be brought from home. Fruit and Veggie Trays will be provided again this year on Friday.
Nelson Rural Spirit Challenge:
Theme Days are as follows:
Monday - Orange and Black
Tuesday - Plaid
Wednesday - Crazy socks/hair
Thursday - Dress like your teacher
Friday - Halloween Shirt / Costume day

Hi families!

Today we had a Fire Safety presentation. Please ask your child what they learned from the firefighters. I am sending home a Fire Prevention booklet with your child today. There is a contest they can enter called "Fire Chief" for the day. If your child wants to enter, please fill out the form and return to school.

We had a very good "first" day of school. We listened to stories, played, looked for "Pete the Cat" and had gym class. We made head bands as well. We had a lot of fun! The day flew by but I did manage to take a few pictures :) I'm looking forward to a great year with these little sweethearts.

There are many notes to read through and information sheets to fill out. I will be sending home a note tomorrow regarding different classes we have and when, how to send in cafeteria orders, sending notes and so on.

Have a great evening!

We are so happy to be back together and are having "SNOW" much fun!
We did a fun little science experiment yesterday to see how fast we could make snow melt using only a popsicle stick and their breath/hands. Some tried setting it near the heater and on the windowsill in the sun. We learned that the fastest way to melt the snow was to stir it very quickly with the popsicle stick.
Today I collected a jar of snow and they estimated how much water would be in the jar after it melted. We learned that there wasn’t very much compared to the original amount of snow. Two of my littles were right on though!
Tomorrow we will try melting snow with different liquids.

Hi families!

I am so happy to be able to say these words for the first time since Christmas break…”I’ll see you on Monday!” I am thrilled to be able to see the children again. A writing prompt for today (if you need one) could be about what they are looking forward to doing at school. Please work on your last couple of pages in your packets and return completed work. Feel free to keep BUMP and any other math or literacy game home to play at another time. Roll and read sight words is a good one to have at home as well. Just to change up your homework routine.

I’ll see your babies on Monday. Please have extra masks packed in their bookbags and check to make sure they fit properly. The reusable ones tend to stretch out after multiple washes.

Thank you.

Good morning and happy Thursday!
Today I'd like you to listen to a story about mittens. It's also a story about kindness. It's called: The Mitten Tree. After listening, imagine you are a character in this story... what kind of mittens you would like the lady to knit for you? Would you wish for stripes? A pattern? Heart mittens? Using the mittens in your home learning pack, design your very own pair of mittens. Please send me a picture of your mittens. I can't wait to see them!
Writing today could be about your mitten. What does it look like? What colours did you choose?
Please review your sight words and practice reading your books.
If you haven't completed the "Roll and Cover 1 Less", try that today.
It's great practice to roll and name the number that is 1 less or 1 more.
I am hopeful that we will return to in person learning on Monday. Fingers and toes are crossed. Take Care and enjoy your day everyone. Hugs to your little one!

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday. I hope is going well with your new packets and that the children are working hard. :)

If you need an idea for writing today, ask your child to choose one of their stuffed toys. The first sentence will tell what the stuffy is. Then they can write 2 describing sentences. The last sentence can tell how they feel about their stuffie. For example: This is my monkey. It is brown and black. It is very soft. I love my monkey. I used many sight words in my example. Those words should be spelled properly when your child writes. The rest will be written by stretching out the word and recording the sounds they hear. Praise all efforts. If you'd like, send me a picture of your child's writing today :)

On Wednesday at school, we focus on wellness so I am sharing a video you can play for your little one.

If you haven't played "Snowy Bump" try it today!

Reach out if you need me. Take care.
