Today we learned a lot about Groundhogs! They are very interesting mammals and we think they do deserve their own special day! We were also happy to hear that in Canada the groundhog did not see his shadow so spring is on its way!   We learned a song to go with our groundhog stick puppets. It goes like this, (incase some of you forget) I'm a little groundhog, Furry and brown, See me POP! , As I look around! If I see my shadow, down I go! 6 more weeks of winter OH, NO!

Earlier this month, the Kindergarten classes went on a trip to the Apple orchard at McAllister's Farm. We had a fantastic trip and learned a lot. We enjoyed picking the apples and most of all....tasting them! We had fun on the hayride and watching the cows munch on the apples. Tasting the grapes was a new experience for everyone- especially when we saw what happened to our tongues! :) We were allowed to choose a pumpkin for our class as well. Thank you McAllister farm! We picked apples to bring back to our school. We filled 4 baskets within minutes!!!! After the hayride and posing for class pictures, we had our lunch in the big barn. What a great day!

We are so happy that Spring is here! The children are excited to see the change in the seasons. We are looking forward to Earth Day and Easter this month. Lots of fun ahead!
The children LOVED making gifts for their families the past few days. They took their time and put a lot of love into each item they made. Here are some of them making ornaments for their trees! I have also added an image gallery so you can see more photos. :) Merry Christmas.

Our Peer Helpers have put together a fun week which they have called "Christmas Spirit Week!" On Monday, they would like us to show our Christmas Spirit by dressing like an elf. Tuesday is "dress like a reindeer" day. Wednesday is "Red and Green" day. Thursday is "bring your Christmas teddy to school" day and on Friday is "crazy Christmas hair" day. Please show your spirit by dressing up and taking part in this fun week!

SPLAT the Cat is a character in a series of books written by Rob Scotton. We love his illustrations and in his latest book, Merry Christmas, Splat!, Splat is especially cute. At the end of this story Splat opens his present and he looks VERY happy. It said it was the best present ever but we couldn't see what it was and the author didn't tell us. We were left to imagine what might have been in the box. The children came up with some awesome ideas and were very motivated to write about what they thought Splat received. Some ideas were: a hotdog, a new bowl, a mouse, a toy, cheese Whiz, a new owner, a couch, some holly, treats and a dog. Great work boys and girls and thank you to Rob Scotton for writing such an awesome book.

Today is Earth Day and the children are very excited to celebrate. They have been learning about how they can help our planet by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling. We are having a litterless lunch today and will be cleaning up our playground. The children are keen to learn about the environment and want to do their part. A good website to visit is www.ecokids.ca It has a lot of good information and talks about what others students are doing in Canada. There are aslo some free videos on www.brainpopjr.com that talk about the Earth. Check them out!   Happy Spring!   Spring is a great time to explore our 5 Senses. There are so many changes to see, smell, feel and hear. We explored our sense of taste yesterday with a yummy taste test. We tested our taste buds with sweet, sour and salty foods and had fun! We will be finishing this unit soon. We have finished with all Zoophonics animals and sounds and are now combining sounds to read and spell words. We are also working on the "th", "sh" and "ch" sounds.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all! May the luck of the Irish be with you. :) We made leprechaun traps today and are hoping we will catch one. We have been having fun learning about rainbows, sining leprechaun songs and listening to stories about St. Patrick's Day. We are presently working on the letter y and enjoyed meeting Yancy yak. We look forward to learning more about Yaks.                            Take Care.

Wow! We have had a busy month! Groundhog's Day, Valentine's Day, Flag Day, 100th Day, the Spell-A-Thon Fundraiser and the Olympics all made for a very exciting month indeed. The children have learned many new things and have had a lot of fun. We've had celebrations for these special days, with our most recent being the 100th Day of school. I will be posting pictures as I get them on the computer.
