We will be having a VIRTUAL Pumpkin carving/decorating this year.  Two categories: (1) Carving and (2)Decorating.  Students will decorate or carve their pumpkins at home and take a picture of themselves WITH their pumpkin and email it to the designated person on the team.  The deadline for entries will be October 23rd.

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful long weekend with family and friends. Did you eat a lot of turkey? I sure did!!

Homework- Students will continue with the alphabet tracing book, reviewing zoo-phonics actions and letter sounds. Students will also read," My C Book",this week. Encourage students to point to each word as they read. See if the can find the words "I, see, a" in the book. Please record what the children read each night and have them print their name. Return reading bags and books to school on Friday.Thanks!

Library- Every Tuesday,we will go to the library. Please remember to return your book so that you will be able to sign out a new book. You can keep this book for the week. Happy reading!!

Phys.Ed.- We have Phys. Ed. class every Wednesday to Friday. Please dress in comfortable clothing on these days.

Home Learning Kits- This week (Thursday) students will receive a home learning bag,that is to remain in their bookbag and is to be used only in the event of school closure due to COVID-19. Please read the information sent home on Wednesday.It will explain when and how to use the material in the bag.I appreciate your support with our home learning activites. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at school. Thanks!

Dress for the weather- It is much cooler in the mornings now and that their is frost in the air. Wear your hats,gloves and a warmer jacket so that you will not be cold when we go outside.

Mask & Water Bottles- Students should have 2 clean mask at schools each day. Please send a water bottle for your child to use throughout the day. We will send water bottles and mask home each night to be cleaned. Thank you for your continued support with this.

Apple Orchard- We had a fun time at the orchard.We picked apples, went on a hayride and met the animals(3 goats and a donkey).Be sure to check out the pictures on this page.We will be making a special treat this week with the apples we picked. Can you guess what it is? Ask your child how they peeled the apples!

Hi there! I hope everyone had a fun weeked with family and friends. I huge thank you to all of you for your donations to our Terry Fox Walk. We far surpassed our goal of $40 dollars and raised $107! Totally amazing everyone!!! The children got to enjoy a longer recess on the playground and a popsicle for their great work!! I am very proud of the children for carrying on Terry's dream.

Homework- "My ABC book" will be going home today. Please read the memo explaining how to trace the letters and read the book. The book has pictures of each zoo-phonics animal. The children will be practicing correct formation for each letter and identify the letter name\sound and zoo-phonic animal as they read through the book.This will be a great review, especially for those who do not know all letters and sounds yet.Please take 10 minutes each night to read the book. You can do a few pages each night or read the whole book,whichever is best for you and your child. I will also be sending 1 Borrow-A-Book home for the children to read a few times during the week.Students will read their books throughout the week (Monday-Thursday) and return the books on Friday. Be sure to fill out the reading log and have your child print their name on the sheet. Please return all books in the ziplock even the paper copy books that your children coloured (for ex.Welcome to Kindergarten book and Letter Aa book). The children will use these books in their reading bags in class.Thanks.

Library -We go to the library every Tuesday.Please bring your book back to school (in the library zip lock bag) so that you will be able to sign out a new book.

Phys.Ed classes- We have gym class every Wednesday to Friday. Please dress in comfortable clothing on these days. 

Apple Orchard- The Kindergarten classes will be visiting the apple orchard on Wednesday October 7th. The cost is $5 and will be covered by the student council.Please bring a lunch as we will be eating at the orchard and there is no microwave available to heat food. Dress for the weather and wear your rubber boots as the orchard can be wet early in the mornings. We will be travelling by bus and will leave school around 9:30 and return by 12:00.

This week is Fire Prevention week. The theme is ‘Serve up Fire Safety in the kitchen”. We will be talking about ways to stay safe and practice a fire drill. Please talk with your children about ways to be safe at home, check your smoke detectors and practice fire drills and going to your meeting place at home. Thanks!                                                                                                                     

Thanksgiving Dinner- This meal will be served on Thursday, October 8th in the cafeteria. It will be the only meal served. If you have not paid for your meal yet, please send in the money by Thursday. Thanks!

Thanksgiving Day Holiday- There will be no school Monday, October 12th. I want to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. I will see you on Tuesday.

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful fall colours that surround our communities. We have a very busy week ahead of us with lots going on. I appreciate all of your support in advance of these events.

Boorrow-A-Book- We will begin our Boorrow-A-Book reading program this week. Each week students will take home 3-4 books in their ziplock bag.Please read the information being sent home. Students will read their books throughout the week (Monday-Thursday) and return the books on Friday. You should spend about 10 minutes of reading each night, so read one book a night. Be sure to fill out the reading log and have your child print their name on the sheet.Thanks and Happy reading!!

Zoo-phonics alphabet chart- Review the actions, sounds and letter names for each animal character. Do a few letters each night until your child can identify the letter\sound quickly.

Library- We visit the library on Tuesday. Don't forget to return your book (in the library bag), so that you can sign out a new book.

Visit to Fletcher's Farm\Corn Maze & Terry Fox Walk-On Tuesday, September 29th, the Kindergarten classes will be walking to the corn maze.The cost of the trip is $2 per child and the Student Council will pay the remaining $3 fee.During our walk to the farm, we are proud to participate in the 40th Annivaersary of the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope and will "TrylikeTerry, as we dedicate our walk in his memory and for our family and friends. Students are asked to bring a donation from home.Each class is trying to raise $40 and I have encouraged the children to try and earn their money by doing a chore or help others out at home. This will be their own "Try like Terry" activity. We have been talking about Terry and the amazing journey he had walking across the country to rasie money for cancer research.Please share your memories of Terry with your child. They are very interested in learning about Terry. He truly was an amazing Canandian!!!

Orange Shirt Day- On Wednesday,September 30th, please wear orange in remembrance of the residential school children.

School Pictures are on Friday, October 2nd for all K-8 students. Bring your SMILES!!

Hi there! I hope everyone enjoyed their last weekend of summer. We have been having fun in Kindergarten.The children are getting to know each other better and have been building wonderful relationships as we work, play, share and cooperate in class. I am very pleased with how well the students are learning our daily class routines, they are having fun and enjoying their time together, which is wonderful to see.

Zoo-phonics- We have been practicing the Zoo-phonics actions,letters\sounds in class. This information was sent home today. Please review the alphabet chart throughout the week with your child. 

Library-On Tuesdays we will be going to the library to borrow a book. Students will bring this book home and can keep it for the week. Library books go home in a ziplock bag and should be returned to school in this bag every Tuesday. Books must be returned in order for students to sign out a new book.

Phys. Ed - We have gym class every Wednesday-Friday. K-2 students do not change clothes for gym so please wear comfortable clothes to run and play in.

Cafeteria- If your child is ordering lunch, please fill out the menu sheet or write their order on a piece of paper and put it and the money in their agenda.Orders need to be sent to the cafeteria each morning.If your child is getting a drink or treat please indicate this on a piece of paper with your child’s name and put in a bag with the money. This will avoid confusion for the cafeteria staff and your child. Thanks.

 

We have been learning about ways to stay safe at school,on the playground and bus.We have practiced a school fire drill and will do bus evacuation this week. Please discuss the importance of safety and following the rules at school and on the bus with your child. Thank you. 

Mask- students have been doing a good job with taking care of and wearing their mask.Students should have 2 clean mask at schools. Mask go home daily and should be washed often. When sending mask with your child please put them in a baggie or container with your childs name on it. I have one green camouflage mask on my desk that no one has claimed. If your child is missing a mask, please contact me at school.

 

Water Bottles- please send a water bottle to school each day with your child. We will do our best to send them back home each night to be washed. Due to COVID19 the water fountains are turned off but, students can refill water bottles.  

School Pictures will be on October 2.

Welcome back everyone! I hope that you had a great weekend. We had a very good 1st week at school. I loved meeting your beautiful children and I am excited to have them in my class. I know we are going to have a fabulous year in Kindergarten. I want to thank you for the terrific job you did preparing your children for this unique school year. The children know the importance of wearing their mask and washing their hands. Thanks to you they are comfortable wearing their mask when neccessary and are certainly getting use to following our routines of when and wear we should wear a mask. Students are to have 2 clean mask at school.

Our Phys.Ed. classes will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On these days it's best for the children to wear comfy clothes to run and play in. 

Agendas and yellow folders will go home each night. We will communicate our weekly activities and news in the agenda. Please read through the school information found at the front of the agenda. If you need to contact me at school you can write a note in the agenda, call the school, 627-4074 or send me an email, joan.sullivan-goguen@nbed.nb.ca. The yellow folder will have information for you to read, sign and return found in the bring back section and also material and student work that is to be kept home.When sending things into school please be sure to put your childs name on it.The Agenda\Student Fee for K-2 is $10. Please send this fee into school when you can and thank you to those who have already done so.

Water bottles- please continue to return your childs water bottles daily. Students can refill their bottles at the fountain however, due to the new COVID19 protocols students are unable to get a drink from the fountain. 

As we start a new week, both staff and students are getting use to following the arrows on the floor, staying within our class bubble, wearing our mask in hallways, playing in our assigned zones on the playground.Together we are learning to stay safe, so we can stay at school. Your continued support as we move forward in Kindergarten, is greatly appreciated.

A big hello and welcome to Ainzley, Alex, Ava, Ayla, Bernie, Cameron, Freya, Landon, Lukin, Mia, Nate, Sadie, Thomas and Wally. Mrs. Alward and I are very excited to meet you and begin our year together. We have a fun day planned for you and while it is going to be a different 1st day for all of us, we have done our best to make everyone feel safe at Nelson Rural School.Please remember to bring a water bottle and your mask with you. Pack a lunch and your favourite snack.Have a good sleep and I will see some of you tomorrow and the rest of our class on Wednesday.Thursday we will all be together in class. Can't wait!!!

Parents can pick up report cards on Friday, June 19th,from 9-12 and 1-3pm.Teachers will be st up in the gym at individual tables. Parents are to come in the main door and go to the gym and then leave by the exit the Grades 3-5 wing.

Hi Everyone, I hope you had a fun weekend with your family. This will be our last week of home learning. We will look at our last 2 alphabet friends,Yancy Yak and Zeke Zebra. With writing, the topic is, Kindergarten Fun. I know our year didn't finish quite the way we wished but, what did you like to do when you were at school? Write about it! I also made a new secret message for you to solve. Can you do it? I know a lot of you like try to solve the code so, good luck with the new message. In math we continue with making 10 and even have a bowling activity for you to try. Mrs. Poole and I had a lot of fun bowling, so we hope you will too. Fathers Day is coming up June 21st, so I added an activity to write a card \note, drawing and craft for your Dad, Stepdad, Grandfather, Uncle or that special person you wish to celebrate on Father's Day.

As always, I want you to play and explore outside often, read and be read to daily, be kind, share and have fun with those you are with each day. Have a great last week and I hope you get to try most of the activities. Hi there and happy 1st day of June !! Today I am back at school, in our classroom and one very, very important part of our room is missimg. MY KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS!!! Mrs. Alward and I are missing your more today than when we first left. We sure wish you all were here with us!! It's hard to believe that we are on week 9 of home learning. I hope you give some of the activities a try and keep working hard with your reading, writing and math. We will finish our unit on the five senses and have a taste test for the final activity. We also want to learn more about you. What were you like as a baby? What can you do now that you couldn't do when you were younger?  We want you to do a timeline to show us how you have grown. Check out Mrs. Pooles video on comparing mass-. It explains the math activity we asked you to try this week at home. This video can show you how to compare objects to determine which is heavier/lighter at home just by holding them in your hand. A balance scale would be used at school to see if you were right but, this isn't possible at this time. See if you can order your  items from lightest to heaviest. Have Fun!

Hi everyone, I hope that you had a fantastic weekend and got out to enjoy the sun. Perhaps, some of you got to spend time with more family and friends now that more restrictions have been lifted. Please continiue to stay vigilant and continue to follow the provincial guidelines to ensure we all stay safe.

This week in home learning we want you to keep up with your daily reading, review sight words and do some writing. In math you can try the actiivities on mass and facts of 9. We are exploring our community in You and Your World. What place do you love to go to in our community? The park, playground, pool, theater, your Grandmother's house, or school? Also try the smell test, "What's that smell"? found on the class web page.

Yearbook orders are do this week. Please contact me if you wish to purchase one. The cost is $20 a book. The books will be ready in September and payment is due then. Hi everyone! I hope that you had a nice,relaxing long weekend.We had lovely weather and it was great to be outside.

We have some fun activities for your home learning this week. Keep up with your daily reading and be sure to read books on Raz Kids. You will find stories here that you can read to your family. We have a fun sight word activity for you to try this week. We are working on the letter "v" and want you to think of words that start with "v". Be sure to check out Starfall. We even use this letter to get creative in Art. We will complete our unit on capacity in Math, and explore the story, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We also look at partners of 8 and have a fun math game for you to play called Wild 8's.Keep exploring on Dreambox Math, I am seeing some wonderful results here. Great work!!! This week we explore our sense of touch and have 2 fun activities for you to try at home. Have fun!!
