Notes for 6W, 7H, 8M, 8MFI & 8P

Students completed a dot to dot this afternoon counting by 5's. For homework I would like them to read all the numbers on the page to someone. If they are having difficulty they can use the number page in their vocabulary binder.

We will be having Christmas dinner on Wednesday. If students did not purchase the meal they will need to bring their own lunch as that will be the only meal served that day.

Please see the information on the final part of our healthy living challenge. Students have a drink diary to fill out and return.

Le 6 decembre

We wrote our letters to Santa today and I will be sending them off as soon as they are all done. We have also started working with Christmas vocabulary so you can ask your child about their favorite part of Christmas or about their letter and they should be able to respond.

Students are working on numbers 1-1000. Once they have 1-100 down pat the rest tends to come very quickly. I would never expect them to sit down and count to 1000. They could however start at 327 and count to 340 forward or do the same backwards or count from 635 – 700 by 5’s for example. They should be practicing counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s at a variety of intervals. They could randomly pick 3 playing cards from 1-9 or roll 3 die and make the biggest or smallest number possible, or make all the possible numbers they can with those numbers and order them from greatest to least or smallest to biggest. The important thing is that they are comfortable with the numbers 1-1000 and are able to recognize and write them quickly.

They do not have their agendas tonight but they should have brought home their new library books, French and English and their vocabulary binder. Their Christmas concert poem is in a sheet protector in the binder.

Le 3 decembre

December has arrived and we will be busy covering the curriculum and learning the vocabulary of the season all month. The children will be performing the poem “Le bonhomme de noel” at the Christmas concert and will need to be able to recite their line by heart. They should practice nightly. Reading the whole poem would be a good idea for French reading.

Tomorrow is the last day to contribute to the “Giving Tree” initiative. Thank you to everyone who has already sent in money or items.

Next Wednesday the cafeteria will be serving Christmas dinner, the cost is $5.75.

The children should be bringing home and spending at least 5min a night working in their “ mots frequent” duo-tang. It is very important that students are able to know these words on sight in order to have fluency in their reading.

le 26 novembre

We are quickly moving into the Christmas season and will be very busy over the next month. We have skating tomorrow morning. Your child has a memo in their agenda regarding the giving tree initiative which is a school wide project. Our class will be providing gifts for 3 seniors at Mount St. Joseph this year and your help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

The book fair is this week. Students visited today to see what is available and we will make time to visit throughout the week to buy books.

Your child is bringing home their dictee scribbler, if they did not make 10/10 today they need to spend a little extra time studying their numbers. They should be able to get them down almost as quickly as they would if they were called out in English.

I am so pleased to say we finished our autobiographies today and they are all up in the hallway outside our classroom. The students worked very hard on these and I am so impressed with how much they have learned in the process.

There is no homework tonight but students brought home their cursive writing duo-tangs to show to someone at home.

Heads up - we will be going skating on Tue. We will leave the school at 9 and return at 10:15.

Next Thursday is parent-teacher meetings from 4-6 but I am away for the day and will be here to meet with parents between 5-7. Appointment times will be given upon request when the forms that go home with the reports are returned. Again I just wanted to give you all a heads up.

Le 14 novembre

Students have brought home their math books to complete page 44 questions 1-5 & 7. We have spent 2 days working on this page in class. It is very normal for the students to have difficulty working from the text in the beginning and to have difficulty getting the questions from the text to the scribbler. This will come but they need to do it to get it. We will work on this page again tomorrow doing corrections and the whole process will get easier with time. This is not an immersion thing it is universal.

Mathématiques

If your child has brought home their math duo-tangs and scribbler they need to complete the pumpkin patch activity (see Nov. 2 for explanation). They are also bringing home another die to assemble and play a question game with.

It is important that they continue to practice their alphabet and counting to 100. As well as number and letter recognition. The goal is to have both of them come as quickly to them as they do in English.

Le 2 novembre

Students have brought home their math duo-tangs and scribblers. They are to finish writing the pattern rules for the numbers in the pumpkins. We have been working on this for a while and we did the first 6 on the board. Most students finished but they were told to bring it home to show you what they are doing. The pattern rules themselves follow a pattern and the words they will need are on the side of the pumpkin patch. I am away to PD tomorrow but I will be back on Monday. Have a great week-end!
