You can find this movie on Disney+

This movie illustrates the following issues which we discussed during our Mental Health Literacy Unit.

Stigma

Stigma is a cluster of negative attitudes and beliefs that motivate the general public to fear, reject, avoid and discriminate against people. Stigma is not just a matter of using the wrong word or action. Stigma is about disrespect. It is the use of negative labels to identify others.

Stereotype

A stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular group of people.

Prejudice

Prejudice is agreeing with the stereotypes.

Discrimination

Discrimination is unfavourable behavior that may result from stigmas, stereotypes and prejudice.

This is a great cross-curricular activity that has a focus on wellness. I would use a book that is ready for recycling and try to mix up the activities.

Some possible ideas

  • Black out poetry

  • Illustrate the main idea on the page

  • Illustrate an image that stood out for you

  • Sum the page up with a word

  • Illustrate your personal connection to the page

The ideas are only limited by your imagination. I’d love to see some pictures.

I will post the video as well as the link on my teacher page if I can figure out how to do it.
