Read & Record

study provinces on map – the map of Canada can be found in their agenda on page R11 – Part of next week’s spelling test will be done on a blank map of Canada where students will need to put the names of the provinces and territories in the proper places with proper spelling. They have already had the provinces and territories, a few at a time, for spelling words so they should already be able to spell them. Ask your child how they can use “You're Not That Nice” & “Bobby Ate Some Meatballs On Quebec” to help them put the territories and provinces, west of Ontario, in their proper place.

red duo-tang - Complete all worksheets.

cursive writing

sign spelling test - We will be continuing to do review tests over the next few weeks so students should be studying any words they had difficulty with on previous tests.

Read & Record

study for spelling test  - These words can be found down the right hand side of the teachers page under pages. They only have 5 new words this week so I will be calling 10 review words.

Phys. Ed

prepare binder to pass in – see October  I will be collecting the binders over the week-end, marking Octobers entries and Novembers to date. These pages should be in order and completed. I will continue to post the PowerPoints on the class page. The current month is always a working document and tends to change as we go depending on what I determine to be group needs.

November 9

  • Read & Record

  • Study new spelling words – I will check that they recorded the words correctly when I pass back the agendas tomorrow. Copying from the board is a skill that is still important, and we will continue to record them in this way until all students have mastered the skill. If you notice an error in what your child recorded please feel free to help them to fix it.

  • October story – quotations – This will be the last thing we will revise on this piece. We will be finishing it up tomorrow. Some students have asked if they can work on their writing from home and I told them that is great if they have access to a computer.

  • Poppy donation

  • Wear black, white and/or red  - we will be having a virtual ceremony tomorrow but some of the students wanted to dress-up anyway out of respect for those who have served our country and those who still do. This is not necessary

  • We started drawing poppies today with the help of an on-line video. Students are doing a beautiful job. This is the site if students want to try again at home. This is a great activity for paying attention to detail and following instruction. The instruction on this video as with many of the how to draw video’s is completely visual.

  • Read & Record - In agenda again this evening.

  • sign spelling test

  • cursive writing practice – Grayson plus any individual words I have written in the back of their spelling test tablets.

  • Phys Ed

  • October story – Read to someone - Often times we will hear when something doesn’t sound right so this is a good practice when revising and/or editing our writing. I will be marking this piece of writing for sentence fluency, so it is extra important that students use punctuation and capitals correctly. I will be adding a PowerPoint on the teacher's page with the activities we have done with this piece to help revise their piece.

Homework

Read and Record - Record in agenda for this evening as I am marking the yellow duo-tangs.

Study spelling words - We start with a base of words on Monday that students record into their agendas. We then add words up until Wednesday. On Wednesday I add the list of words to the teacher's page. If you are having trouble finding them your child should be able to show you as I have showed them several times and they have navigated to them on their own when they completed the “Teacher Page Search & Find”.

Sign red duo-tang - You can sign and date the first page. The number of pages they had completed satisfactorily is marked out of 16 on the inside cover of the duo-tang.

Prepare binder to pass in. - Students have been given class time to complete all the activities in this binder. Cover pages for Social Studies, Science, Computer and Wellness should be started~ they should at least have the titles on them. I have both the September and October writing activities posted as PowerPoints in the document section. This should be at the front of their binder and make up the bulk of it with a dark green piece of paper separating the September & October activities.

Read and Record

Study spelling words

Writing – work on stor - The draft of their story should have a beginning, middle and an end, if not they should complete this for homework today. This is the fifth day it has been assigned as homework and they have had class time to work on it.

               - sentence structure / beginnings  - All sentences should be circled so students can have a quick visual of how long or short their sentences are. We are looking for variety. All sentences should start with a capital and end with proper puctuation. The first word of every sentence should be highlighted and sentences should have a vaiety of beginings.

Yellow duo-tangs – Halloween packet # 2 - We had time to work on this and research anything they didn't know during computer lab time today.
