I just added a new article to the News~ELA site titled “Comics are for kids? This Vermont college begs to differ” This would be a great read for students and parents alike.

I have added two articles, one on how to properly wash your hands and the second titled "Opinion: Fear about the coronavirus is normal, but don’t let it control you”. The second has a link with instructions to make your own no sew face mask with an old t-shirt.

If you make your own mask, I’d love to see a picture. You could e-mail or message one to me or add one yourself to the Parent Information FB page. We love to see all the home learning activities that you are doing.

Check out the Newsela site for the newest articles "What teenage brains can teach us about thinking creatively", "Rise and slime! It's salamander time" and several others. I will be adding articles regularly. If there is something you are interested in and would like me to look for articles on that topic just email me to let me know, they have articles on pretty much everything. I am keeping the reading level light as I want you to be reading these to promote thought, conversation and knowledge.

You can find this movie on Disney+

This movie illustrates the following issues which we discussed during our Mental Health Literacy Unit.

Stigma

Stigma is a cluster of negative attitudes and beliefs that motivate the general public to fear, reject, avoid and discriminate against people. Stigma is not just a matter of using the wrong word or action. Stigma is about disrespect. It is the use of negative labels to identify others.

Stereotype

A stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular group of people.

Prejudice

Prejudice is agreeing with the stereotypes.

Discrimination

Discrimination is unfavourable behavior that may result from stigmas, stereotypes and prejudice.
