Good morning! And welcome to another round of Home Learning! I have made up new Learning Packets and I'll be at the school today so you can pick up those packets. If you are not available to come to the school today between 12:00 and 4:00, please let me know and I will do my best to get the packet to you.
The format for our Home Learning will be similar to the last time. However, this time, I would like to try to connect with the students via Microsoft Teams as often as possible. Your child's login information is taped inside the Home Learning packet. I plan on setting up a Teams meeting each day at 1:00, so anyone who is available can check in. I realize this can be difficult for many, so it is not mandatory. I mainly just want to touch base and have a chat with my students.
All completed work can be brought to school when we return.

If you ordered school clothing, they are in and will be available for pick up at the school today, November 12th. Mr. Fitzpatrick will be at the school from 10:00AM - 12:00PM to hand out the clothing.

Good morning! Happy Friday! I hope everyone took time out of their day yesterday to pause and remember all the brave ones who fought for our country.

Here is what I would like everyone to work on today:

Writing:Imagine you had a genie to grant you three wishes. List all your wish ideas. It can be anything! Then circle your top three wishes and tell me more about each one. Why do you wish a genie would grant you that wish? As always, you can either type your writing ideas out on your technology device or you can write them down on a sheet of paper. If you wish, you can send it to me at abby.sullivan@nbed.nb.ca I love reading them throughout the day! If not, just remember to keep all your writing pieces together and bring them back to school with you when we go back.

Reading: Please read a book or books of your choice for 20 minutes. Record what you read in your log. If you prefer to listen to a story on Tumblebooks, you can do that too.

Here is the login information:

Website: TumbleBooks - eBooks for eKids! (tumblebooklibrary.com)

(Username: nblib  Password: nbschools)

Math: Warm up- think of all the ways you can make the number 36 and write them down. I want you to think of at least 10 different ways. Think of addition, subtraction, multiplication and even division if you are up for the challenge! Also, think about how you could draw this number using base ten blocks. EX: _ + _ = 36 or _ X _ = 36.

Review 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 times tables. Think of the rule for each (EX: 0 is the hero, 1 is the mirror) and then either recite the facts out loud or write them down, or both! The more practice the better. Do whichever method works best for you.

*If you want to challenge yourself… practice the division facts.

The Snack Shack Menu worksheet: Please work on the other snack shack menu math sheet in your ‘Home Learning’ packet if you have not done so already. Remember to bring this back to school with you when we go back.

Dreambox (20 minutes):You can sign in to your Dreambox account and work on your assigned lessons. Your login information is in your ‘Home Learning’ packet.

STEAM: Please choose at least one of the following activities to work on. If you are feeling super adventurous and creative do both!

1)    Create your own bird’s nest: Think of a bird’s nest… how do you think you could create one? What materials would you need? Make a list of all the materials you need that you can find outside in nature. Then think of how you would begin to construct a bird’s nest. What shape is a bird’s nest typically? How would you get your materials to form that shape? When you have a plan in place head outside with your list and begin your own scavenger hunt, looking for any of the materials that you wrote down. When you have collected all the materials, start building your bird’s nest. When building, think of birds that you commonly see around your home. How do you think they would build their own birds’ nest? When your nest is complete, do you think it could hold a bird? Why or why do you not think that? If you are unsure, test it out. Have fun with it! Do not give up… keep trying different materials if something does not seem to be working.

2)     Natural animal art: Think of an animal. Now look up a picture of that animal and pay attention to the fine details of this animal. Does it have stripes? Is it small? Is it multicoloured? Does it have wings? Think of all the unique characteristics of the animal. Once you have a picture in your mind of the animal of your choice, go outside and collect any leaves, branches, berries, flowers, pebbles, etc. that you can find around your yard. The more variety the better! When you have found all the materials you think you will need, create your animal out of only those materials. You can either glue your nature materials to cardboard, or paper depending on the materials you have chosen, or you can simply arrange the materials to form that animal. No glue or paper required. Use your imagination!

If you were not able to complete all the activities during the week, you can go back at any time to work on them.

Feel free to share any of your work during the day, you can send it to me at abby.sullivan@nbed.nb.ca. I would really love to see your bird nests and natural animal art projects!

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, I will be happy to help!

Have a wonderful day and weekend grade four! Hope to see you all so very soon!

Good morning! I hope everyone had a happy Monday and got outside to enjoy the nice weather!

This week is Veterans Week. Remembrance Day is on Thursday, November 11th. It is important that we take the time to remember and honour all the sacrifices that our Canadian Veterans and Soldiers have made for us. Please take time during the week to say thank you.

Here is what I would like everyone to work on today:

Writing:Please listen to the story, A Poppy is to Remember on YouTube.

The read aloud can be found here: A Poppy is a Promise - YouTube

Once you have listened to the story, work on the writing piece, A Poppy is to Remember. The beginning of the writing prompt is, I wear a poppy on Remembrance Day to…The document is attached. Draw a picture to go with your writing.

Reading:Read the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae and complete the reflection questions.

Reflection Questions:

1)    How does this poem make you feel? Why?

2)    What line of the poem do you think is the most powerful, or impacts the reader the most?

3)    Why do you think this poem is often read on Remembrance Day?

Both the poem and reflection questions are attached below.

As always, read a book of your choice for 20 minutes. Remember to write down what you read in your log.

Math: Warm up- Which one doesn’t belong? Look at the pictures below. Choose one object that you feel does not belong with the others and justify your answer. Why does it not belong? Do this for both pictures. If you can, ask someone else which object they think does not belong and why. See if you agree or disagree on the object that does not belong. Remember there is no right answer! The purpose is to back up your choice with reasoning… always answering the why question. Why do you think that object does not belong? What is different about it?

* I have attached the two pictures below in a PDF document in case they do not show up.

Can you create a tower with all your rocks, are you able to stack them all? Can you create a pattern or design with your rocks?

When you are building, notice the different rock properties. Does the placement of the rocks matter? Why do you think that is? Are you able to create the same structure or design, by moving the rocks? If you need to gather more rocks to create something, please do! Have fun with it!

As always send along any pictures of you working hard throughout the day. I would love to see what you come up with for your rock building creation!

Make sure to get outside and get some fresh air!! If you have any questions at all or require assistance for any of the activities, please email me and I will be glad to help.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, settling in to our class and getting to know each other.  We have 25 students, our EA, Sarah Sullivan, and our student teacher, Abby Sullivan!

Academically, we are focusing on:

Math: comparing and ordering numbers to 10000, and basic multiplication.  We have also worked on number sense and estimating with our dialy "warm-up" activities. At home, students can be practicing skip counting and reading large numbers.

L.A.: We are working on sentence structure and organization in writing. Our Guided Reading groups will start on Monday. Students should be reading every night.

We are trying to spend as much time outside as possible, where we have completed some fun STEAM activities.

Posted: November 5, 2020

Students should be reading (either to themself or to an adult) EVERY NIGHT.  I have sent home a Reading Log and it would be great if the students could record their reading each night and have their parent\guardian sign it nightly.  They can all use the practice with developing fluency in their reading.

Grade 4 students should be practicing their multiplication facts (Grade 3 will be starting this in the next week)

Spelling words are sent weekly and should be practiced each night.

A note regarding our Roots of Empathy Program has been sent home (Photo\Video & Artwork\Writing Release Form)...please sign and return asap.

If you have any questions regarding homework, please email me at angela.woods@nbed.nb.ca or call me at the school.

It's been a very busy week so far in our class!

We are excited to announce that some of our chicken eggs have hatched!! We are hoping to see more hatch in the next day or two!

Please be sure to read every night for at least 20 minutes and don't forget to study your Spelling words!

Phys Ed is every Wednesday and Friday...please try to remember to bring Gym clothes!

Thanksgiving dinner will be served tomorrow in the cafeteria.  This is the ONLY meal option.
