Good morning! I hope everyone had a happy Monday and got outside to enjoy the nice weather!
This week is Veterans Week. Remembrance Day is on Thursday, November 11th. It is important that we take the time to remember and honour all the sacrifices that our Canadian Veterans and Soldiers have made for us. Please take time during the week to say thank you.
Here is what I would like everyone to work on today:
Writing:Please listen to the story, A Poppy is to Remember on YouTube.
The read aloud can be found here: A Poppy is a Promise - YouTube
Once you have listened to the story, work on the writing piece, A Poppy is to Remember. The beginning of the writing prompt is, I wear a poppy on Remembrance Day to…The document is attached. Draw a picture to go with your writing.
Reading:Read the poem In Flanders Fields by John McCrae and complete the reflection questions.
Reflection Questions:
1) How does this poem make you feel? Why?
2) What line of the poem do you think is the most powerful, or impacts the reader the most?
3) Why do you think this poem is often read on Remembrance Day?
Both the poem and reflection questions are attached below.
As always, read a book of your choice for 20 minutes. Remember to write down what you read in your log.
Math: Warm up- Which one doesn’t belong? Look at the pictures below. Choose one object that you feel does not belong with the others and justify your answer. Why does it not belong? Do this for both pictures. If you can, ask someone else which object they think does not belong and why. See if you agree or disagree on the object that does not belong. Remember there is no right answer! The purpose is to back up your choice with reasoning… always answering the why question. Why do you think that object does not belong? What is different about it?
* I have attached the two pictures below in a PDF document in case they do not show up.
Addition Word Problems worksheet: Please work on the addition word problems math sheet in your ‘Home Learning’ packet. Remember to bring this back to school with you when we go back.
Dreambox (20 minutes):You can sign in to your Dreambox account and work on your assigned lessons. Your login information is in your ‘Home Learning’ packet.
Boom Cards (20 minutes): You can sign into your Boom Card account and work on your assigned lessons. If you can’t find your login information, please let me know and I will send it to you.
STEAM: Be sure to check out ‘Nature Ninja,’ these activities have been passed along by Mrs. Dalton. The document is attached below.
It is going to be another beautiful day outside grade four, make sure to get out and enjoy it, have fun!!
Feel free to share any of your work during the day!
