le 4 octobre

We had a great time at the corn maze today. We also talked about Thanksgiving and the things that we are grateful for. Most students have a book called “Le souper de l’action de graces” to practice reading. We were a few short so if they don’t have one they will bring it home over the week-end to share with you.

Le 3 octobre

We will be leaving the school tomorrow directly following the announcements for the corn field. Weather permitting! As of now it looks ok. We are asking for $3 from each student to help cover the cost. If any parents would like to join us the cost is $10 per person, children under 3 are free.

Le 28 septembre

The month of September flew by and it is amazing how much your children have picked up in such a short time. We played memory and bang during morning circle and they were flying through the 19 sight words we have covered with ease. The numbers are giving the students a little more trouble however. We will stop at 50 and practice these numbers for the next week or so. We will be going to the corn maze on Thursday morning at 9, weather permitting. Students need to bring in $3 each to help cover the cost.

Le 27 septembre

We had a great walk this afternoon. The boys and girls are probably tired. They have some reading to do and need to bring their Phys. Ed. clothes tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening. Don’t forget that it is orange shirt day tomorrow in memory of those who went to residential schools.

Le 26 septembre

I missed the 25th! Students brought home another little book “Les Amis” yesterday and like “Notre classe” it is made up of French sight words or what we refer to as ‘les mots frequent’ in class. As in English reading comes much quicker once they can read these words without hesitation.

I have moved the English reading logs next to the agenda’s so I will remember to send them home nightly for students to record their reading. I know there is a place in the agenda but it is nice to have it all together so they can see all they’ve read.

Re-takes and sibling pictures tomorrow and the Terry Fox walk is tomorrow afternoon. It is orange          t-shirt day on Friday and  your child has a memo explaining the significance of the orange t-shirt.

Le 24 septembre

Your child has brought home a little book named “Notre classe” they will more than likely have it memorized by now so it is important that they point at and focus on the words as the entire book is made up of sight words. They could be challenged to read it backwards or to read random words rather than the whole story. It is important that students continue working on number names and counting the web sites are great for this.

Le 21 septembre

Kouchibouguac has a “10K Under 10 Million Stars” event tomorrow evening from 8 – 10. I do believe this event is in English but they do run French events from time to time which would be great for your child. The more they use their French and are exposed to it the quicker it will come. The students don’t have any official homework but I told them to watch a French program on the television or Netflix.

Le 20 septembre

Tonight is “Meet the Teacher” meet and greet. I look forward to meeting you all. There will be a BBQ so you will be able to get your supper here that is always a bonus. Your child is bringing home a net to make a die and a piece of construction paper, they may need some help to construct it. We did not do them at school as I didn’t want them to get squashes in the ‘sac d’ecole’. I demonstrated how to make it and we played the game during circle time so they should know what to do with it.

Book orders are due tomorrow.

Le 19 septembre

Your child will be showing you what looks like a spelling test. It is actually dictation using French sight words. The purpose of this is to help us isolate which letters they are still having difficulty identifying. As in English they will need to be able to not only recite the alphabet but to identify the letters by sight and sound and to use them to spell out words. Your child will eventually be expected to spell these words in their day to day writing but as of now we are working on being able to read them quickly. I will be adding a sight word document to our page for your reference and adding to it weekly.

Orange t-shirt day is coming up next Friday.

Le 16 septembre

We had another busy day. Tomorrow is Wellness Wednesday and each week we will be doing a wellness activity instead of the morning walk. Last week we discussed the importance of being prepared and how things just run smoother when we are ready for our day. Tomorrow we will be doing some breathing activities and students are asked to bring in a small stuffy toy (apportez un petit jouet en peluche). We are continuing to work on numbers and the goal is that students know their numbers in French as they do in English.

As a rule I will not be giving homework on Fridays. I have however asked the students to do something of their choice to practice their French.

Le 13 septembre

Your child is bringing home their vocabulary scribbler tonight to share with you. During morning message time we have been listening for “les mots des amis” these are words that sound the similiar in French and English that have similar meanings. There are literally thousands of these words in the French language and they can be a big help when we are trying to understand what someone is saying. In our message today we had the words, septembre, frais, habitions and longues. Ask your child about these words, what they are and how to use them.

Your child is also bringing home a browsing book. They are meant to look at the pictures and scan for familiar words but they will not be able to read them yet.

Le 12 septembre

Your child is bringing home their Les sons duo-tang again tonight. There is a new story they should be able to tell you the sound <e> makes and show you the gesture we will use with that sound. It is proven that we remember sounds better if we associate them with a physical movement so each of the 28 sounds we will practice and learn will have a story and movement to go with it.

Le 11 septembre

Your child is bringing home the same reading materials today as they did yesterday, as in English repetition and practice helps to build confidence and fluency as well as reinforcing sight words. Again for extra practice alphabet and counting videos would be great. You could also watch music videos or movies in French. Watching movies that your child already knows, with or with-out sub-titles in French is another way to help boost vocabulary and comprehension. The most important thing is to try to keep it fun.
