Welcome To Grade 2!

Posted: October 4, 2015

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a fun weekend! It is hard to believe that we are into the month of October already! The students are settling into the Grade 2 routine and we are already learning lots of new things.     Phys. Ed Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday and Tuesday.      Math We finished up our unit on patterns. Now we are starting a unit on numbers to 100. Students can be working on counting in different ways at home by; 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. In this unit we will also be working on odd and even numbers, counting with money, ordinals, showing numbers in different ways and place value.   Class Project With Texas We finished our class letter and sent it to our friends in Ms. Sands class. We told them lots of interesting things about our class, school, city, province and country. We can't wait to get their letter! We will start our weekly reports in the next few weeks.  No School Just a reminder that Thursday October 8th and Friday October 9th are Professional Learning Days for teachers, so there is no school for students on these days.   Homework/Borrow-A-Book This is a short week for students, so there are only 2 nights for homework. As it is a short week we will not be having a spelling list. Instead we are sending home a Grade 2 sight word list that we will be using throughout the year. We have started working on the 6+1 Writing Traits and the first one is Ideas. Students have to use the main idea, stay on topic and write sentences with good details to go with it. Please make sure you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet. School Terry Fox Walk We had our school walk on Friday October 2nd. Thanks to the students and the parents who joined us  and to everyone for your donations to the Terry Fox Foundation. By your participation and donations, we are all helping to keep Terry's deam alive and helping to make a difference!   Fire Prevention Week October 5th - 9th is Fire Prevention Week. We will be working on Fire Safety tips and having a visit from the Fire Fighters. It would be a good time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors at home.    Happy Thanksgiving Wishing all my students and their families a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoy your time off with your family and friends. We have a lot to be thankful for! Have a super week!

Hi Everyone, I hope you had a wonderful weekend and got outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.     Phys. Ed Our Phys. Ed days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.     Terry Fox Walk Our school walk is on Friday October 1st. The K-2 students will be walking the trail around the soccer field and softball field. Please join us if you can. The walk starts at 1:00 PM. We have been learning all about Terry Fox and what he did with his Marathon Of Hope. Look at the difference that one person can make!  Students are asked to bring in $2.00, or a donation of their choice, which will be given to the Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research. We are helping to keep Terry's dream alive. What a great Canadian Hero!   Library Our library day is on Friday. Please remember to bring in your book so you can take out another one.   Homework/ Borrow-A-Book The homework for the week is listed in the blue folder. Our spelling words this week focus on the short /i/ vowel sound. Please make sure you read your book each night and record the book on the log sheet.    Math In Math we are working on a unit on patterns. We have done a lot of work with repeating patterns and have just started learning about increasing patterns. We have found out that increasing patterns get bigger, they go up by the same amount each time. You can work on counting by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s at home. Scholastic Book Clubs Order forms for the Scholastic Book Club will be going home on Monday. If you would like to order a book, please return the form and money by Thursday October 1st.   Class Project With Texas We have started our project with our partner class in Texas. The first thing we are working on is our class letter of introduction. This is the 10th year that our school has partnered with St. John's Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas. We are looking forward to another great year!      Have a fabulous week!
