Grade 2 News October 5 - October 9

Posted: October 4, 2015

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a fun weekend! It is hard to believe that we are into the month of October already! The students are settling into the Grade 2 routine and we are already learning lots of new things.     Phys. Ed Our Phys. Ed days this week are Monday and Tuesday.      Math We finished up our unit on patterns. Now we are starting a unit on numbers to 100. Students can be working on counting in different ways at home by; 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. In this unit we will also be working on odd and even numbers, counting with money, ordinals, showing numbers in different ways and place value.   Class Project With Texas We finished our class letter and sent it to our friends in Ms. Sands class. We told them lots of interesting things about our class, school, city, province and country. We can't wait to get their letter! We will start our weekly reports in the next few weeks.  No School Just a reminder that Thursday October 8th and Friday October 9th are Professional Learning Days for teachers, so there is no school for students on these days.   Homework/Borrow-A-Book This is a short week for students, so there are only 2 nights for homework. As it is a short week we will not be having a spelling list. Instead we are sending home a Grade 2 sight word list that we will be using throughout the year. We have started working on the 6+1 Writing Traits and the first one is Ideas. Students have to use the main idea, stay on topic and write sentences with good details to go with it. Please make sure you are reading each night and record your book on the log sheet. School Terry Fox Walk We had our school walk on Friday October 2nd. Thanks to the students and the parents who joined us  and to everyone for your donations to the Terry Fox Foundation. By your participation and donations, we are all helping to keep Terry's deam alive and helping to make a difference!   Fire Prevention Week October 5th - 9th is Fire Prevention Week. We will be working on Fire Safety tips and having a visit from the Fire Fighters. It would be a good time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors at home.    Happy Thanksgiving Wishing all my students and their families a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Enjoy your time off with your family and friends. We have a lot to be thankful for! Have a super week!
