There is an Office web link on the right hand side of this Teacher Page under Pages.

Hello everyone, hope you had a nice weekend with your families. It was fantastic to meet with a lot you on Friday on Teams. We will see if more of us can’t meet up this coming Friday. Also, you can ask questions by posting on the Teams ongoing conversations too.

This week you can continue reading your own book, e book or audio book and take notes for a future book promo. I have included the website evaluation challenge again this week for those of you who haven’t had the chance to try yet.

In writing some new persuasive writing topic ideas are included as well as an explanation for you to begin planning your original essay/documentary idea you were working on before school closed. Mr. Bosma will be posting a video by Tuesday explaining this organizer and more this week. Make sure to check out Mrs. Hache's teacher page for Math too.

I will be contacting you this week, and if it isn't me, Mrs. Murphy will be contacting some of you. You can always email me and asking questions on my Teams page on Office 365 too.

Please email me gerrit.bosma@nbed.nb.ca if students are having a difficulty with usernames or passwords.

Capturing this Time in History

You are living through an unprecedented moment in history. Stories about this period of time will be told for generations to come, so you can capture how this event is affecting you, your family, your school and your community.

I  suggest that you start writing every day in an attempt to capture this history in any way you would like and keep your writing skills going. I’ve listed some suggestions below, but feel free to come up with your own ideas. ** Share your favorite piece of writing with Mr. Bosma on Thursday by going to Office 365 through with Microsoft Teams or through your Email (if you can, don’t worry if that is not possible it is ok).

(Choose, or your own topic, to write about 3 or 4 topics for this week)

·       Capture how your school year has been disrupted- what are you missing?

·       Discuss how your daily life has been disrupted, or changed. What have you learned?

·       Share the effect this isolation has had on your friends and family

·       What have you been doing with your time?

·       Be Persuasive: (Use the Persuasive Strategies for Success – There is a Word Document under Mr. Bosma’s Teacher Page under Documents.  – Please be persuasive in explaining the best things you have been doing to keep your mind and body active, and what helps you relaxed and chill?

** Take 10 minutes to write and 5 minutes to Revise/Edit each day.

** Remember when revising/editing to use STAR – Substitute better words, Take out what is not needed, Add words, sentences, or punctuation, Rearrange your writing.

*** Don’t get stressed about daily writing – email or through Microsoft Teams ask Mr. B questions. I will be checking in.

** Capture Visually/Audio Choice -  Have some fun. Move around your home and yard capture what you are doing.

If you want to add to your journal capturing history you may(choice) take videos, photos, audio, and art work if you wish to help explain what you have been doing, what is keeping you active and the people in your family (ask permission of course) who are in this to help you. Stay positive!  Please post ( if you want to, you don’t have to) your favorite one piece of writing this week wither on your Class  Microsoft Team’s page called 8B (All we do is win) for all to see, or email it too me if you can. There is no need for extra stress at this time if that is not possible. It is ok.

I miss my homeroom mornings and even dismissal (home time) with you 8B so much! Thinking of all of you. Please reach out with questions for me to my email on this page.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bosma.

Grade 6 worked on building their writing ideas on their idea pages this week, as well as consistenly writing through quick writes. They have been learning to respond to their own individual reading, and learning such responses through the class novel Boy in the Striped Pajamas, read aloud by Mr. Bosma.

For tomorrow, Friday Sept. 16, they are asked to bring in a small to medium sized object that they are familiar with or holds meaning for them. They can keep it locked in their lockers until they are asked to bring in it to class.

Awesome week with these fantastic kids.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bosma

Currently in Grade 8 this week we are building our writing idea pages, consistently writing quick writes, and learning how to properly respond to our own comprehension thought respones with our class novel Egghead.

For Friday (Tomorrow) Sept. 16 students should bring in a photo or image. It can be a real photo or printed from the internet. It should be of people, animals, action, or scenery, and not someone you know.

The past week in Grade 8K and 8B: (Silent Sustained Reading and response - 15 minutes each day)

  • We practiced and completed presentations, formal speeches, or spoken word poems.
  • Today we began a discussion on What is Poetry? This led to the beginning of a quick write about if you could pick 10 songs or more to play while on a desserted island what would they be..

Homework/Reminders:  Read 30 minutes, log and respond.

Think of 10 songs or more you would want on your own mix tape/playlist (need to have words).
