Here we see our Grade 1 mathematicians at work again.  They are using 2 color counters, a dish and a recording sheet.  We used several different numbers of counters from 12 to 18.  The children put the counters into the bowl and gave a gentle shake.  When the counters spilled on the table, the...

On April 22, our class celebrated Earth Day.  We learned about many little things that we can do to keep our planet clean.  Some of the ideas we discussed included - turning off the faucet when brushing your teeth, switching the lights out when leaving a room, planting trees to purify the air, picking up litter when we see it and not adding more by throwing wrappers on the ground.  For Art class, we made little globes from white glue and food coloring.  They had to dry for several days and then we cut around the outside to make a better circle.  After hole-punching and adding a string, we had our Earth Day Badge!  Great job, Grade 1.

Grade 1 Mac has been busy making spring flowers to celebrate the change of season.  Here on the Miramichi, it takes more time for real flowers to start blooming.  We fixed that by making our own.  We reused some old cardboard egg cartons and cut each one into the shape of a flower (tulip) by ...

Earth Day 2013 Vermi Compost Game

Grade 1 Mac has enjoyed watching and playing this Compost Game.  I am adding the link so the children can show their parents and friends.  Together, let us do our best to help Planet Earth.
Grade 1 Mac has been meeting with our Buddies from Grade 4 Tozer since September.  We are having a good time getting to know them better.  They help us with our reading and writing and crafts.  Thank you for spending time with us!
Our class has been working with numbers to 100.  On this day, we counted 100 or more Cheerios by putting them into groups.  Some counted by two's, other's by five's, but the fastest counters used groups of ten's.  Everyone did a terrific job and of course, the best part was eating the Cheerios when...

We have been learning a few new poems for spring.  This one seems appropriate for right now since the weather doesn't quite look like spring yet.  This is the second time I have tried to put this poem on our site.  Because it's longer than some of the others, we had to speed it up so the computer file was not so big.  The children like adding the word "Caterpillar" to the author's name, since his name is Dave Crawley.

Our grade one class is working on numbers to 100.  For now, we are looking at those up to 50.  Today we had fun ordering number cards.  We worked in pairs, taking turns arranging the numbers.  When we were finished, I removed some from each group and the children had to find the missing digits and...
