This week was Fire Prevention Week.  The boys and girls learned how to protect themselves against fire if it ever got on their clothing.  We learned a little song to help them remember.  Because this was a three-day week, some of us are not real sure of the words yet.

The boys and girls in Gr 1 Mac have been busy working on numbers from one to 20.  Today we finished up our booklets.  It was a lot of drawing, cutting and coloring but we had fun doing it.

Thanksgiving is this Monday, October 8.  To celebrate this special holiday, our class read books, watched two videos, did some writing and worked on turkey pictures together.  The children wrote things they were thankful for on the tail feathers.  They are so proud of their art and so am I.  Happy...

This week we walked with other students at Nelson Rural School to honour Terry Fox.  Our class learned what a great hero Terry is and how he thought more of others than himself.  He had a dream that each Canadian would give $1 to help find a cure for cancer.  He was touched by children younger than himself who had the disease.  He decided he would try to walk across Canada, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean to make people aware of the need for more cancer research.  He started his walk in St. John's Newfoundland, but after months of walking, Terry's cancer came back.  He had made it all the way to Thunder Bay, Ontario before he had to stop. Terry's dream still goes on and the children in Grade 1 Mac became part of that dream. They walked on Thursday afternoon and brought in money from their own piggy banks to help find a cure for Cancer.

A New Year in Grade 1 Mac Another year has started at Nelson Rural and the children in Grade 1 Mac are already hard at work.  We got busy on the first week of school practicing our poem for Grandparents Day and drawing pictures of our grandparents.  This will be the first entry in our Art Folder this year.  All our art work will be taken home in June to share with our family. Check out the Image Gallery to see photos of your children working on their grandparent faces.
