Today we celebrated our friend Thea, who turned 7 years old two days ago. Happy birthday Thea!! Have a fantastic year!!

It was PJ Day! We watched Frosty the Snowman, decorated Christmas Cookies, had a Christmas dance party and we got pictures with our first place elf traps!! The students were excited. It was a super fun day had by all!!

We created elf traps! We listened to the story, How to Catch an Elf. We then brainstormed with our group members, figured out a plan and then we went to work. They turned out awesome! Great creativity happening here! The students got first place in the school challenge, way to go grade 1!!

We participated in our schools Christmas Spirit Week! The first day was Green & Red Day, second day was Christmas Shirt/Sweater Day, the third day was Christmas Concert Day, the fourth day was Christmas Socks/Hat day and the fifth day was PJ Day!! Awesome job showing our spirit grade 1!!

We followed a step-by-step directed drawing of Santa Claus and then painted him with watercolours. Great job grade 1!! They are beautiful Santas!

Welcome to our final week before Christmas Break! It is going to be a very fun week! 

Outside Clothing: please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. The weather is colder now and there is snow. Students need snow pants, hats and mitts to play in the snow. 

Library: last week was our final library day until the New Year. If you have a book at home, please make sure to return it this week. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: continue to practice what is sent home each night. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. 
  • Return the levelled books on Friday. 
  • Remember to send back the agenda and 'bring back' 'keep home' folder to school each day.

 Food Bank Donations: just a reminder, we are collecting for the food bank until Thursday, December 22nd. If you are able to, I kindly ask that you send in the item or items that were noted on the sheet sent home. Thank you for your support!! 

Christmas Concert: the school Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 21st. It starts at 9:00AM. Loved ones are welcome to attend! :) 

 Skating: we are going skating on Thursday, December 22nd. Please fill out the form that was sent home last week and send it back to school ASAP. This will give me time to make sure there is enough skates and helmets for everyone that needs them. Grown ups are welcome to come. If you are going on the ice, you need skates and a helmet. Please refer to the memo that was sent home. 

Christmas Spirit Week: this week is our Christmas Spirit week. Each day has a suggested theme that everyone is encouraged to participate in. 

Monday- Green & Red Day 

Tuesday- Christmas Shirt/ Sweater Day 

Wednesday- Christmas Concert Day 

Thursday- Christmas Hat/ Socks Day 

Friday- PJ Day or School Clothing 

Last day of School: our last day of school before the Christmas Break is on Friday, December 23rd. It is a half day of school, dismissal will be at 11:30AM. 

Have a fantastic week grade 1!! The countdown is on now! Less than a week until the big day! :) 

I would like to wish happy holidays to all of my students and their families! Enjoy this special time together, make wonderful memories and have lots of fun!! See everyone in the New Year! :)

We spent time learning about hibernation and an animal that we discussed a lot, was a bear. We tied this learning into an art lesson. We looked at Eric Carle's art and discussed his uniqueness. We then used his technique on our bears. Great job!!

This is what is going on in grade 1 this week:

Library: this Tuesday is our last library day until the New Year. All books must be returned. We will sign out new books in January. 

Homework:

Christmas Shop: the Christmas Shop is on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Our class will be going shopping on Monday. All items are between $1-$2. Students can shop for their loved ones!

Today we were surprised with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! The students were so excited!! They each had a turn to talk with Santa and Mrs. Claus and were given a candy cane. Thank you Santa and Mrs. Claus!!
