Happy First Day of Spring!! 

This is what is happening this week in Grade 1:

Dress for the weather: please continue to send in an extra bag for the students to put their wet and dirty (muddy) clothing in at the end of the day. It would also be a good idea to send in extra mitts. 

Library: we go to the library tomorrow. Make sure you return your book so you can sign out another for the week to come. Please send back all books. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book (or two) and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: it is important to continue to practice what is sent home each night. If the students complete all the sight words, they can practice spelling them each night. I will notify you when the students are at this stage. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. 
  • Please return the levelled books on Thursday, March 23rd. 

Fundraiser:  all pledge money was due on March 2nd. If you have not already sent it in, please do so ASAP. 

World Down Syndrome Day: tomorrow, March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. Please wear unique socks (bright, mismatched, striped, polka dots, etc.) to start a conversation and show your love and support. 

No School: there is no school for students on Friday, March 24th. It is a Professional Learning Day for teachers. 

Water Bottles: please send the students to school with a water bottle each day.

Welcome back!! I hope everyone enjoyed their March break!! From the stories I heard today, it sure sounds that way! :) 

Library: we go to the library tomorrow. Make sure you return your book so you can sign out another for the week to come. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book (or two) and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: it is important to continue to practice what is sent home each night. If the students complete all the sight words, they can practice spelling them each night. I will notify you when the students are at this stage. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. 
  • Please return the levelled books at the end of the week. 

Fundraiser:  just a reminder, all pledge money for the fundraiser was due back on March 2nd. Please bring your money in ASAP, if you have not already. 

Saint Patrick's Day: is this Friday, March 17th. Please wear green. Also, we will be making and creating leprechaun traps! If you have any extra boxes, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, kleenex boxes, etc. please send those in on or before Thursday. Thank you!!

It is spirit week this week in Grade 1, here is what is happening:

Library: we go to the library tomorrow. Make sure you return your book so you can sign out another for the week. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book (or two) and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: continue to practice what is sent home each night. If the students complete all the sight words, they can practice spelling them each night. I will notify you when the students are at this stage. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. Continue to play a math game each evening. New math games were sent home today. The games focus on using our addition strategies (friends of 10, doubles, etc.). 
  • Return the levelled books at the end of the week.  
  • Remember to send back the agenda and 'bring back' 'keep home' folder to school each day.

Fundraiser: the NUMER-ACTION fact test, participation form and pledge sheets have been sent home with the students. Please look at the pledge sheets and send in all the money that is owed. All pledge money is due back on Thursday, March 2rd. Thank you for your support! All money raised helps with student activities. 

Spirit Week: this week is spirit week! Each day has a theme. Be sure to try your best and participate!

Monday: Hoodie/Toque Day

Tuesday: Neon/ Rainbow/ Tie-Dye Day

Wednesday: School Colours/ Clothing Day

Thursday: Crazy Hair/ Snazzy Sock Day 

Friday: PJ/ Jersey Day

March Break: the March Break is the week of March 6th- 10th. I hope everyone enjoys their break!!

It is another busy week in Grade 1, here is what is happening:

Library: we went to the library today. Students who did not return your book today, please bring it back tomorrow. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book (or two) and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: continue to practice what is sent home each night. If the students complete all the sight words, they can practice spelling them each night. I will notify you when the students are at this stage. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. Continue to play a math game each evening. I will be sending home new math games next week (on Monday). I apologize, I did not send them last week. 
  • Return the levelled books at the end of the week.  
  • Remember to send back the agenda and 'bring back' 'keep home' folder to school each day.

Pink Shirt Day: please wear pink tomorrow, February 22nd, in support of anti-bullying day. 

100th Day of School: our new date for the 100th day of school will be this Friday, February 24th. The students will be bringing their collection bag home tomorrow with them to collect 100 items. We would ask that the items fit in the paper bag as we will be putting them on display for the other K-2 classes to view. Please refer to the memo that was sent home for additional information. This Friday will be an extra fun Friday!! 

Fundraiser: we participated in the NUMER-ACTION day today. The day was filled with math activities and physical activity all day! The students did great on the math facts test. Please send in the money as you collect it. Thank you!

Water Bottles: please send the students to school with a water bottle each day.

It is a busy week this week in Grade 1, here is what is happening:

Dress for the weather: remember to pack extra socks, pants, hats and mitts in your bookbag each day in case of clothing getting wet. Also, an extra plastic or reusable bag sent in daily would be great. 

Library: we go to the library tomorrow. Please make sure to bring back your book to be able to take out another. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book (or two) and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: continue to practice what is sent home each night. If the students complete all the sight words, they can practice spelling them each night. I will notify you when the students are at this stage. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. Continue to play a math game each evening. I will be sending home new math games this week. These games will cover what we are learning now, addition. 
  • Return the levelled books at the end of the week.  
  • Remember to send back the agenda and 'bring back' 'keep home' folder to school each day.

Valentine's Day: our class will be celebrating Valentine's Day tomorrow, Tuesday, February 14th. Students can bring in Valentines to exchange with their classmates. Refer to the class list that was sent home. The school will be giving us a fruit and vegetable tray on this day. Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy this special day with your loved ones. 

Flag Day: on Wednesday, February 15th, we will be celebrating our Canadian Flag. Please wear Red or White on this day. 

Fundraiser: contine to collect pledges and practice your math facts. The pledge sheets are due on  Wednesday, February 15th. We will be participating in the NUMER-ACTION day on Friday, February 17th. On this day we will be doing the math test and getting active! Pledge sheets and money can be brought to school now up until the due date. Good luck grade 1! You got this!

Skating: a reminder, we are going skating on Thursday, February 16th at 9:35-10:35AM. Please let me know if your child will need skates or a helmet. Parents/Guardians are welcome to join us at the Civic Center. Skates are needed on the ice, no boots allowed. 

No School: there will be no school on Monday, February 20th as it is Family Day. Take the time to enjoy this day with your loved ones.

Here is what to take note of for this week in Grade 1:

Dress for the weather: it would be a good idea to pack extra socks, pants, hats and mitts in your bookbag each day in case of clothing getting wet. The students are having so much fun playing in the snow!

Library: we go to the library tomorrow. Please send back all books to make sure you can sign out another book for the week.

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book (or two) and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: continue to practice what is sent home each night. If the students complete all the sight words, they can practice spelling them each night. I will notify you when the students are at this stage. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. Any of the games/activities that have been sent home can be played multiple times. I will be sending home new math games next week. These games will cover what we are learning now, addition. 
  • Return the levelled books at the end of the week.

Valentine's Day: our class will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 14th. Students can bring in Valentines to exchange with their classmates. I will be sending home a list with all names in our class. The school will be giving us a fruit and vegetable tray on this day. 

Fundraiser: we kicked off our annual school fundraiser- NUMER-ACTION on Wednesday, February 1st. All students were sent home with the pledge sheets and information packages. Students are asked to practice their math facts as we will be having a test on them on February 17th. Students are encouraged to ask their family and friends to pledge them in support of all student activities at school. Pledge sheets are due back on February 15th. Pledge sheets and money can be brought to school now up until the due date. Good luck grade 1! You got this!

February is going to be a very busy month! There are several special days and events that will be happening. A lot of fun to look forward to!

Dress for the weather: please send the students dressed in hats, mitts/gloves, boots and snowpants. They need these to play outside in the snow. If possible, please send in extra hats, mitts and socks in case of clothing articles getting wet. Also, if you could, please send in an extra bag that the students could put their wet snowpants and gloves in to take home at the end of the day. Thanks!

Library: we went to the library today. Please return the books that were not brought back. They can be sent to school tomorrow. 

Homework:

Fundraiser: tomorrow will be the kickoff for the annual school fundraiser. Information will be sent home. Please wear school colours (burgundy and yellow) or school clothing tomorrow, February 1st, to show your school spirit!

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and wish you all a Happy New Year! It was great being back and seeing all of the beautiful, happy, smiling faces today. 

Here is what is going on in grade 1 this week, our first week of the New Year:

Welcome to our final week before Christmas Break! It is going to be a very fun week! 

Outside Clothing: please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. The weather is colder now and there is snow. Students need snow pants, hats and mitts to play in the snow. 

Library: last week was our final library day until the New Year. If you have a book at home, please make sure to return it this week. 

Homework: 

  • Read a levelled book and log it each night. Remember to use your strategies. 
  • Sight words/ letters: continue to practice what is sent home each night. 
  • Play a math game/ activity each night. 
  • Return the levelled books on Friday.

 Food Bank Donations: just a reminder, we are collecting for the food bank until Thursday, December 22nd. If you are able to, I kindly ask that you send in the item or items that were noted on the sheet sent home. Thank you for your support!! 

Christmas Concert: the school Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 21st. It starts at 9:00AM. Loved ones are welcome to attend! :) 

 Skating: we are going skating on Thursday, December 22nd. Please fill out the form that was sent home last week and send it back to school ASAP. This will give me time to make sure there is enough skates and helmets for everyone that needs them. Grown ups are welcome to come. If you are going on the ice, you need skates and a helmet. Please refer to the memo that was sent home. 

Christmas Spirit Week: this week is our Christmas Spirit week. Each day has a suggested theme that everyone is encouraged to participate in. 

Monday- Green & Red Day 

Tuesday- Christmas Shirt/ Sweater Day 

Wednesday- Christmas Concert Day 

Thursday- Christmas Hat/ Socks Day 

Friday- PJ Day or School Clothing 

Last day of School: our last day of school before the Christmas Break is on Friday, December 23rd. It is a half day of school, dismissal will be at 11:30AM.

Library: this Tuesday is our last library day until the New Year. All books must be returned. We will sign out new books in January.

Christmas Shop: the Christmas Shop is on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Our class will be going shopping on Monday. All items are between $1-$2. Students can shop for their loved ones! 

Food Bank Donations: just a reminder, we are still collecting our items for the local food bank. If you are able to, I kindly ask that you send in the item or items that were noted on the sheet sent home. These items can be sent in anytime up until December 22nd. Thank you for your support!!

Here is what is going on this week in grade 1:

Library: library day is on Tuesday. Make sure to return the book you have signed out to be able to take a new book home for the week. 

Homework: continue to read a levelled book and log what you are reading each evening. Make sure to practice letters (My ABC tracing book) or sight words each night. Remember to let me know when students are confidently naming all letters and sounds consistently, if they are working on the letter tracing book. I will then send home sight words. It is important to note that each student learns differently and at their own pace. Continue to play at least one math game/activity each night. 

  • Return the levelled books on the last day of each week. 
  • It is important to send the agenda and 'bring back' 'keep home' folder to school each day. 

Christmas Meal: will be served on Tuesday, December 6th. This meal was pre-ordered and will be the only meal served that day. 

Report Cards: please send back the parent/student response form that was attached to the report cards. Please also indicate your preference for parent teacher on the form provided and send all papers back in the envelope that was given. I will then book appointments for parent teacher and let you know your time. Thanks! 

Parent Teacher: will be held on Thursday, December 8th from 4:00-6:00PM and Friday morning, from 8:30-11:30AM. 

Food Bank Donations: as per the memo sent home, our class is participating in our school wide food drive for the local food bank. If you are able to, I kindly ask that you send in the item or items that were noted on the sheet sent home last week. These items can be sent in anytime up until December 22nd. Thank you for your support!!

Christmas Shop: the Home and School is accepting donations for our Christmas Shop this week, until December 9th. If you have any gently used items that you would like to donate, please send them in. They are also in need of any wrapping paper, tape, gift bags, ribbon and gift tags. Thank you!! We will be going shopping next week! 

No School: there will be no school for students on Friday, December 9th.

Report cards went home with the students today. Please fill out the parent/student response form and return it in the envelope that it was sent home in. Please also indicate your preference for parent- teacher on the form provided and send it back to school as soon as possible. The report card itself can stay at home. Thank you!

Here are some important notes for this week:

Homework: continue to read a levelled book and log what you are reading each evening. Make sure to practice letters or sight words each night. My ABC book, letter tracing, please make sure you are tracing the letters with your finger. Focus on the letters that the student does not know at first. When students are confident with naming the letters and the sounds consistently, please let me know and I will send home sight words. Play one math game each night. I would ask that you make sure to return the levelled books on Friday of each week. 

  • It is important to send the agenda and 'bring back' 'keep home' folder to school each day. 

Warm Clothing:  please come to school dressed for the weather. Warm sweaters, coats, snow pants, hats and mitts would be recommended from now on. We will be going outside for recess- dress warm!
