Good morning Grade 4/5.  I hope you had a wonderful Halloween and I can't wait to hear all about it!  Attached is a link for a virtual classroom if you wish to follow the regular classroom schedule.  Literacy Activities:  1) Read for 20-30 minutes.  2) Write about your Halloween experience.  Weather you went trick or treating, gathered with family, watched a scary movie or played games, write 10-12 sentences using proper punctuation.  Check for spelling errors and share it with a family member.  Math activities: Complete pages 1, 3-digit addition and subtraction sheets.  Then go on either Dreambox or fun4thebrain for 30 minutes.  I will ask for all completed worksheets and assignments to be brought into school when we return.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.  Also, students are encouraged to get outside for some physical activity.  :)

There is an app that you can download that can help children learn to read and increase their phonic awareness.  I added the link below.  Students can create their own Monster which they will use for the games.  There are 3 different levels; one for students in preschool or kindergarten who are just beginning to learn their letters and sounds, the second is for beginning readers and the third level is for more advanced readers.  There are different games and activities that students can focus on  Happy reading!

On Education.com, they offer Independent Study Packets for students from Preschool to Grade 5.  The booklets offer a variety of worksheets for the week including subjects like Math, Language Arts and Science.  During this pandemic, they are free to everyone.  They are very benefitial and I use them on a regular basis with my own two children.  I hope this helps with some extra activities.

I hope everyone is enjoying this time at home with their family.  Stay safe Raiders!

A fun Math activity that students can play with dice is called 'Roll the Dice!".  You can play this with just a regular die or you can get the big foam ones at the dollar store.  This activity can be structured for all ages.  For primary students, have them roll the die two times and add the two mumbers together.  They can all add the two numbers together, then roll the die a third time, using this number to subtract it from the first sum that they came up with.  For older students, they could multiply the two numbers together.

I hope that everyone is staying safe and having fun!

Hello Raiders!  I hope that everyone is staying healthy and enjoying their time with their families.  I just wanted to tell everyone that we miss seeing your faces but that we hope everyone is staying safe at home.  I have found a few online sites that students could use if they are looking for something new to try.  In reguards to Math, there is a pragram called "Iknowit" that is being offered for the next fews months for free.  You can sign up several children and they offer some really fun games and activities.  Also, Education.com is free during this time as well.  They offer various lesson plans, worksheets and guided activities for kindergarten up to grade 5 students.  You can complete most of these activities online or print off the worksheets if you have a printer at home.

If anyone ever has any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me by email at rosalind.donovan@nbed.nb.ca.  Again, take care and stay safe. :)

On February 13, all pledge sheets for the Spell-A-Thon are due back.  The money is due on February 28.  Students should be studying their spelling words each evening as we will have a test on Friday, February 15.  Also on that Friday, it is Flag Day and students are asked to wear Red and White.  On Thursday, February 14, we will have a little Valentine's Day celebbration.  Students can bring in Valentine's for their classmates if they wish to do so.  Also, Friday, February 15 will be my last day before going out on maternity leave.  February is turning out to be a very busy but exciting month.  :)

Just a few reminders for the upcoming week.  Tomorrow the grade 5's will be going skating at the Civic Centre with their buddies.  We will leave the school at 8:20 and return at 9:40.  Also, this Thursday, January 31 is our kick of to the Spell-A-Thon.  We will have an assembly in the gym and students are asked to wear their school colors.  This will also be the last week that the students will be with me in the English Program.  They will switch to Mme. MacDonald's class on Monday, February 4 for the French program.  I will be having a pizza party for my students this Friday to celebrate our last day together.  I will send home a memo reguarding this information.  Have a great week :)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our school has teamed up with 95.9 Sun FM to support the Giving Tree Project.  Each class will sponsor 3-4 seniors, ensuring that they have a wonderful Christmas.  We understand that it is an expensive time of year but they will be so delighted to receive their special gift at Christmas time.  If you are able to make a small donation or donate one of the gifts listed that would be greatly appreciated.  With this activity, we are showing our students that Christmas is a time of giving and that it warms our hearts to help others.  All donations should be submitted by December 3 and all items by December 5.  We thank you for your generosity in advance.
