Hello all 5/6M families. I hope everyone is doing well during these most unusual of times. I continue to do Teams calls regularly each day for math and science class, and I would encourage all students to attend as often as possible to keep up with new learning material.

Also, I have been posting content that we have discussed during our virtual classes and some work and activities on the math and science Teams. So even students who have not been joining our class calls can still engage with current work and activities along with continuing to work on the home learning packets. To clarify, I am still expecting work that I am posting to be completed while at home.

Here are some things I have posted on our Teams sites that all students can be working on:

Math -

1. Textbook questions *grade 5* (pg. 74-75 #1,6,8 and pg. 78 #1,2,3). Pictures of the textbook are attached below.

2. Textbook questions *grade 6* (pg. 8-9 #1,2,4,5). Pictures of the textbook are attached below.

3. Halloween math challenge. Picture is attached below.

4. Estimate and then measure the total length (in centimetres) of all your Halloween treats put together to form a chain.

5. Outdoor "rock and roll numeracy" activity. Picture is attached below. I would love to see pictures of your rock mandala designs!

Science -

1. Questions about the heart. Word document is attached below. The document can be submitted on Teams under the 'assignments' section.

2. Invent, draw, and describe your own device to help with a heart that is not functioning properly. A picture of your device can be submitted on Teams under the 'assignments' section.

Just a reminder that students are expected to attend classes virtually through Microsoft Teams while following their regular class schedule. Any students who are unable to access video calls on Teams (for whatever reason) can continue their learning by working on home learning packets.

Thanks.

So tomorrow we will be transitioning to home learning. Hopefully this will not be long-term and students will be back in the classroom very soon. Beginning Monday students will be learning virtually through Microsoft Teams on Office 365. They are to follow their usual daily schedule and attend each class via a video call on Teams. The class schedule is posted below on this page.

I know myself and Mme. MacDonald have titled our respective Teams with the 'class name' and 'home learning'. When joining the video call, please make sure that each student's microphone is muted on their device. Make sure to have a pencil and paper at the least ready to go to learn.

Hopefully we don't have too many issues with technology tomorrow. This is unfamiliar territory for all of us so all we can do is try our best to be adaptable and roll with the punches as they come our way. It is certainly a learning curve.

If there are any questions or concerns feel free to email me:  michael.methot@nbed.nb.ca

Thanks and Happy Halloween!

Here is the class schedule that students can follow on Teams during home learning. This was the schedule at the start of the year, so now grade 5 students have math class from 11:45-12:15 and from 1:15-1:45.

Today students can work on home learning packets that were sent home by teachers earlier in the year. Stay tuned for more information to come regarding what next week could look like. I will be posting again on this page.

Thank you for your cooperation.

- Read for 20 minutes.

- Halloween spirit day tomorrow:  Costume day or crazy hat/hair day.

- Fundraise! Pledge sheets are due back by November 9th.

- Sibling pictures have been postponed to a later date.

- A home and school memo was sent home yesterday/today.

- Students in grade 5 who play soccer have a jamboree tomorrow. Any students who want to wear a costume tomorrow can wear it to school and we will have a Halloween celebration first thing to start the day as a class before players leave for soccer.
