Hi everyone. I hope you had a great week and got outside for some Vitamin D and fresh air.

Your mission this week, if you choose to accept, is to keep yourself busy outside going for a walk, job, mow the lawn for your parents, go for a bike ride with your friends, swimming and just being happy and healthy.

I have attached this week's STEAM Challenge for any of you that are interested. Your challenge this week is to design and construct a model boat that is sea worthy and resistant to capsizing.

This is your last week of home learning. Make the best of it. You are all going to be missed. It has been an "odd" year to say the least but here's hoping next year we will be long underway to our "New Normal".

7B please be sure to join us for our LAST Team Chat for this year. Remember, I am just an email away if you want to share anything or just want to talk, let me know and I will give you a call.

Have a safe, active and happy summer. Remember to social distance and keep those hands clean and away from your face.

This week your STEAM activity is to bake something from scratch and then eat it, of course.

As you will be eating your new tasty treats, your PE activities are to participate in the second week of the ASDN Virtual Olympics.

Have a great week everyone.

Please see attached document for the STEAM activity. I will continue to post the Virtual Olympics each day on Facebook on the Nelson

Rural Information page.

Please see attached for the activities for Day One of the Virtual Olympics as well as the Scorecard.

Enjoy!

Attached please find this week's STEAM activity.

Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist and inventor who liked to create overly complex machines to complete a simple task using a series of chain reactions.  Think dominoes, ramps, levers, pulleys, and more!

Your challenge is to watch some Rube Goldberg machines in action, get inspired, then create your own machine outdoors using natural objects such as rocks, sticks, hills, etc. Don't forget to click on the link below for your instructions.

I would like you to incorporate your PE activities this week into the STEAM Activity by creating an outdoor obstacle course that could include ramps, levers, pulleys, etc. Then challenge your family members or friends from your bubble to give it a try. Maybe you could work with a couple of your close friends to create an even more challenging obstacle course only using outdoor materials.

I would love to see some of your obstacle courses. Maybe you could make a short video and share it with me at wendy.baldwin@nbed.nb.ca.

Have a great week everyone and be sure to get outside. It is going to be beautiful.

Good luck to all participants in the ASDN Virtual Olympics that begin tomorrow.

Happy Monday. It was nice to see some of your parents this morning picking up your stuff. Made me miss you all even more.

For all of you in Grade 7 & 8, I have attached below the STEAM activity for this week.

Big news for those whom had been working on a STEM Fair project, they are going to have a virtual nation-wide STEM Fair. I have also attached below an email from Mr. Savoy explaining how it works. You may sign up for it as of today.

I hope all are getting outside and enjoying the sun when it shines. Please stay physically active. The Cove is a great way for the family to go on a hike together. There is still some snow on the curling club signed on the hills, but that just makes it more fun!!!! If you do go, you will have to do the Red Trail (Creaghan Gulch) as the bridge is out on the Blue Trail. It was beautiful there yesterday and a great cardio workout.

I will upload a couple of other science activities once I get home. The school computer is taking too long!!

Don't forget about our Team Meeting on Wednesday at 1:30. Look forward to talking to you all.

Have a great week.

Ms. Baldwin

Hello Grade 7 and 8.

Please find this weeks STEAM project if you wish to give it a try. I know it will interest many of you.

Reminder to 7B to be sure to check out Mr. Bosma, Mrs. Hache and Mrs. Murphy's Teacher Pages for for Wellness, math and Language Arts activities for you to work on.

Next week I will be attaching some science actiivities related to our units we started working on in February. Grade 8 yours will involve some interesting small experiments on Optics and Light that you can try at home if you choose to do so. If you are able or already have a laser pointer it will come in handy for many of the labs. I buy mine in the pet section at the Dollar Store in Douglastown. Also, if you have a hand or locker mirror this will also be useful.

Grade 7B - If you are able to find it, I would appreciate it if you can watch the movie Dante's Peak. Many of the outcomes for our unit on The Earth's Crust have been used in making this movie. It is a very good movie that you could watch with your family. I was able to find it on the internet to watch.

Also 7B, don't forget about our Class Team Meeting every Wednesday at 1:30. Please pass the word along to everyone. This is a way for us to do a check-in, have me discuss what you have been doing to keep busy and active and a chance, once I hang up, for you all to talk amongst yourselves.

PE activitiy for this week, if you so choose. I would like each of you to create a game. It could be a tag game or any other game that requires physical activity. It can be an individual or team game. I would like you to video your game with an explanation of the rules and a demonstration how to play. I would hope you would send them to me in an email and then I could post them to our TEAM for each of you to watch. If you are unable or do not want to video yourself or others playing your game, you could draw a diagram of your game and type the instructions and rules for playing. Remember this is a voluntary project but could be a lot of fun if you get your siblings or parents involved.

Have a great week and we will "talk" on Wednesday.

7B, as you are aware, I am not very techie but I do try my best. That being said, I was wondering how many of you are able to sign in to Office 365? I would like to try for us to have a little meeting together on the team Mr. Bosma created for 7B ELA just to all talk together and catch up with one another. If you could please pass this along and to your classmates that may not be on this site that would be great. Let me know in an email or on the message I posted in the Facebook Nelson Rural site., if you are able to log in or not. Missing you all. Thought it would be a great opportunity for us all to get “together”, at least virtually.

I am looking at Wednesday at 1:30. I will send out an invite you can respond to.

I hope to “see” you all soon.

Hi everyone. I hope the Easter Bunny made a visit and you enjoyed celebrating with your family.

I have attached two STEAM/Sciene projects for you to try this week. It is a great time to start plants for planting later in the spring if this is a project you would like to do.  If not, attached is an interesting idea of making a pinwheel and how it can be used to produce wind energy. If you so choose, I hope you will give one a try.

I will be in touch with each of you someday this week. If your parents give you permission, could you email me your cell phone numbers to make it easier for me to contact you and not have to worry about interrupting parents that may be at work. I already have three of your numbers and thank you to those three. Have a great week and I will talk to you soon.

Hi everyone. I have made contact with almost everyone in the past few days and it was great talking to you all. I am so glad to hear that everyone is staying safe, healthy and ACTIVE.  As you are aware, if you are looking for math and language arts suggestions for activities, you must visit Mrs. Hache's and Mr. Bosma's teacher pages.

Science will be more of a STEAM activity to give you a chance to put science inquiry into your days if you feel like trying it.

I will attach this week's activity down below.

Grades 3 - 8 there is a fitness calendar also attached for the month of April. Make sure to scroll down to see all the activities and how to do them.

If you want to contact me please just send me an email and I will give you a call. It doesn't have to be related to school work, you may just want to talk. That is fine. I enjoyed talking to you all and am looking forward to talking to you weekly.
