The grade 5 classes of Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Riordon Barry will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday April 30th in the school cafeteria from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. This important fundraiser will help off set the cost associated with the end of the year class trip to Fredericton. Cost of the meal is $5 per person.

Miramichi Kinsmen and School District 16 are pleased to accept film
entries for the first annual Kin Film Festival. All School District 16
students are invited to participate. Films can be submitted in one of
two categories: Open and The Kinsmen Category. The top 10 films in each
category will be screened on May 7th, 2011 at Miramichi Empire Studio
5. Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded for the winners
in each category.

LET THE SALMON BEGIN!! It's Spring time and the MSA have dropped off the salmon eggs for Nelson Rural Students to nurture and care for over the next several weeks.

Emily Dickson, Deidre Bushey, and Lauren Bushey brought home the Provincial AA Mini Basketball Banner from Blacks Harbour last weekend.
They are part of the Miramichi Tommies Team coached by Marga Hache.

Students and Staff at Nelson Rural celebrated St. Patrick's Day with plenty of green. A huge congratulations goes out to everyone who showed their spirit and wore their finest green!!

On March 16th students and staff took part in "The Great Big Crunch". This is a national program where students across Canada are taking one big bite towards healthy living through healthy eating.
Congratulations to all the students and staff who took part in this wonderful program especially Ms. Hackett's grade 3 class as they won a $150 prize pack for submitting a poem about healthy eating!

We are having problems with cell phones and IPod Touches in classrooms. Students are texting and taking pictures during class time. Currently, cell phones are to be kept in the office and picked up at 3 o’clock and IPod Touches are only to be used in the morning before classes, at lunch and after school. I am trying very hard not to ban these items from school, however, the continued misuse by our students despite numerous warnings is increasing on a daily basis. This will be the final notice to students and parents regarding this issue. If students do not adhere to this policy cell phone
This is a reminder to students, staff, and parents that the cafeteria will be CLOSED on Thursday March 3rd 2011 as Winter Wellness Week is in full swing.
Students are asked to bring a packed lunch to school unless their homeroom teacher is planning on ordering lunch!!
In honour of Flag Day Nelson Rural School held a special Assembly with draws for those wearing red and white and answering trivia questions correctly. This event was a warm up to our Spell A Thon Fundraiser and Spelling Test being held on Thursday Feb. 17th.
Four prizes of Canadian shirts, mittens, movie passes and Raiders School Shirts were given out at each grade level.
