Good Morning Grade 2!

I hope that everyone had a good day yesterday! Wow! What a cold start for the day! Hopefully it will warm up as the day goes on!!

Here are some activities you can work on today.

Orange Homework Books

  • Read – Choose a book to read from the reading bag. Use your strategies to help with the reading and record the book on the log sheet.
  • Spelling – Week 9 - The focus this week is on the long /a/ and bossy /e/ vowel sounds that make the /a/ say its own name. Go over the words, practice spelling them out loud. The /e/ is silent at the end.
  • Math -  Numbers and Operations – Addition and subtraction word problems. Read each problem and use your strategies to find the answers. Count by 1s to 40 and by 10s starting at 9 and going to 109.

Home Learning Pack – Week 3

  • Word Work – Sheet – Reading and Word Work –  /ake/ family  - Read the story. Then read again and highlight all the /ake/ words in the story. Read each question and circle the right answer. The answers are in the story.
  • Math – Warm Up – Count and Move! – Put on a Jack Hartman Video, or count and move on your own. Try counting backwards by 1s  from 100.
  • Math – Facts – Pick one box from the orange sheet to work on. Remember knowing your facts will help with adding and subtracting.
  • Math Game – Try Snowman Bump from your Learning Pack – This is an adding game plus 1, use your strategies to help.
  • Writing/Art – Sheet – Winter Poster – All About My Favourite Things - You got a start on this activity yesterday.  You can continue working on it today. There are instructions of what to do on the back of the sheet.  Write a sentence for each part and then draw a picture to go with it. There is a word sheet to help. Remember to add good details and begin and end your sentences the right way.
  • Read – Share a story book with someone at home; share one from Tumble Books. The link and passwords are on the class page. Read some of the winter poems, this is a good way to practice fluency.

Calendar and Weather

  • Go over the calendar and weather. There is a calendar page added to the Documents section on the class page, or you might have a calendar at home to use. How many Thursdays are there in this month? What day of the week does this month end on? What was the date 4 days ago?
  • Check the weblink for the weather. Compare the temperatures for the next 7 days. What is the high? What is the low? On what day are we getting the most snow? What day of the week will have the warmest temperature?

Technology/On-Line Programs

  • If you have access to a device and have some extra time, you can log on to Squiggle Park or Dream Box Math and play.

Outdoor Play/Physical Activity

  • It looks like another cold day for us. If you can’t get outside find something fun to do inside. Maybe check the STEAM Board.
  • Check Mrs. Dickson’s page for some fun Phys. Ed activities.

STEAM Time

  • Check the STEAM Board in the documents section for an activity to do or check the ASD-N Cross Curricular BINGO Card in the Photo Galleries Section.

ASD-N Math Board

  • There are 2 Math Boards created by the District Math Leads in the Documents section. You might find an activity on one of the boards you would like to try.

Photos

  • Send along pictures of any of the activities you do. I would love to see them and will add them to our class page to share with the rest of the class.

I am available throughout the day by e-mail or phone if you have any questions or need support with activities.  I am here to help, so please reach out for anything you need.  lisa.sullivan@nbed.nb.ca      627-4074
