Good Morning Grade 2!

I hope that everyone had a fun day yesterday and you were able to get out and play in the snow! It looks like we are in for another cold day with the windchill today!

Here are some activities you can work on today.

Orange Homework Books

  • Read – Choose a book to read from the reading bag. Use your strategies to help with the reading and record the book on the log sheet.
  • Spelling – Week 9 - The focus this week is on the long /a/ and bossy /e/ vowel sounds that make the /a/ say its own name. Go over the words, practice spelling them out loud. The /e/ is silent at the end.
  • Writing – 6+1 Writing Traits – We have been working on the Organization Trait – It is important when we write to tell things in order. Tell the steps in order you follow to brush your teeth. Make sure you write a complete sentence and draw and colour a picture for each step.

Home Learning Pack – Week 3

  • Word Work – Sheet – Week 9 Word Search – Can you find all 10 spelling words in the puzzle? When you find the word, circle it and spell it in the boxes below.
  • Math – Warm Up – Count and Move! – Put on a Jack Hartman Video, or count and move on your own. Try counting forwards by 2s to 100 or as high as you can go.
  • Math – Sheet – Subtraction – Colour By Code – Solve all the number sentences first and then use the code to colour. Make sure to use your strategies to help find the answers.
  • Math Game – Try Take From 13 Bump from your Learning Pack – This is a subtracting game, use your strategies to help.
  • Writing/Art – Sheet – Winter Poster – All About My Favourite Things - You can get a start on the poster today. There are instructions of what to do on the back of the sheet.  Write a sentence for each part and then draw a picture to go with it. There is a word sheet to help. Remember to add good details and begin and end your sentences the right way.
  • Read – Share a story book with someone at home; share one from Tumble Books. The link and passwords are on the class page. If you haven’t done the winter poems yet, maybe give them a try. This is a good way to practice fluency.

Calendar and Weather

  • Go over the calendar and weather. There is a calendar page added to the Documents section on the class page, or you might have a calendar at home to use. How many Wednesdays are there in this month? What day of the week will next the month start on? What will the date be 3 days from today?
  • Check the weblink for the weather. Compare the temperatures for the next 7 days. What is the high? What is the low? How many days are we expecting sun? How many days have temperatures with 1-digit numbers?

Technology/On-Line Programs

  • If you have access to a device and have some extra time, you can log on to Squiggle Park or Dream Box Math and play.

Outdoor Play/Physical Activity

  • It looks like the weather might be too cold to get outside, but maybe later in the afternoon. If not find something fun to do inside.
  • Check Mrs. Dickson’s page for some fun Phys. Ed activities.

STEAM Time

  • Check the STEAM Board in the documents section for an activity to do or check the ASD-N Cross Curricular BINGO Card in the Photo Galleries Section.

ASD-N Math Board

  • There are 2 Math Boards created by the District Math Leads in the Documents section. You might find an activity on one of the boards you would like to try.

Photos

  • Send along pictures of any of the activities you do. I would love to see them and will add them to our class page to share with the rest of the class.

I am available throughout the day by e-mail or phone if you have any questions or need support with activities.  I am here to help, so please reach out for anything you need.  lisa.sullivan@nbed.nb.ca     627-4074
