Good Morning Grade 2!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful day yesterday! It is forecasting some snow with the temperature warming up later, so it may be a good day to play outside!
Here are some activities you can work on today.
Orange Homework Books
- Read – Choose a book to read from the reading bag. Use your strategies to help with the reading and record the book on the log sheet.
- Spelling – Week 9 - The focus this week is on the long /a/ and bossy /e/ vowel sounds that make the /a/ say its own name. Go over the words, practice spelling them out loud. The /e/ is silent at the end.
- Math – Numbers and Operations – Mental Math Strategies – Adding and Subtracting – Use your strategies to help solve the word problems and number sentences. Count by 10s starting at 1.
Home Learning Pack – Week 3
- Word Work – Sheet – Colour By Spelling Word – Use the colour code to colour the space for each word. Practice spelling your words as you are colouring the space. There are 9 out of 10 of the spelling words in the code. Do you know what word is missing?
- Math – Warm Up – Count and Move! – Put on a Jack Hartman Video, or count and move on your own. Try counting forwards to 100 by 5s and backwards from 100.
- Math – Facts – Pick 1 box of facts from the orange sheet and work on them.
- Math Game – Try Heart Bump from your Learning Pack – This is an adding game, use your strategies to help. You will need a deck of cards. There is a deck in the Home Learning Kit that was sent home at the beginning of the year.
- Writing – Sheet - Winter – Opinion Writing – You Choose – Yesterday you did the first part of the writing, today you can finish it. Choose which sport you like best and colour the picture. Read over what you have so far and then continue. Make sure you have a good opening sentence; Tell 5 things that you like about the sport and why. That’s a sentence for each one. Have a good ending sentence. There is a word sheet to help. Remember to add good details and begin and end your sentences the right way.
- Read – Share a story book with someone at home; share one from Tumble Books. The link and passwords are on the class page. You can try the winter poems too.
Calendar and Weather
- Go over the calendar and weather. There is a calendar page added to the Documents section on the class page, or you might have a calendar at home to use. How many days are left in this week? What day of the week does this month end on? What was the date one week ago from today?
- Check the weblink for the weather. Compare the temperatures for the next 7 days. What is the high? What is the low? How many days are we expecting snow this week? How many days have temperatures with 2-digit numbers?
Technology/On-Line Programs
- If you have access to a device and have some extra time, you can log on to Squiggle Park or Dream Box Math and play.
Outdoor Play/Physical Activity
- It looks like the weather will be good to get outside, get some fresh air, and play in the snow! How many snowflakes can you catch?
- Check Mrs. Dickson’s page for some fun Phys. Ed activities.
STEAM Time
- Check the STEAM Board in the documents section for an activity to do or check the ASD-N Cross Curricular BINGO Card in the Photo Galleries Section.
ASD-N Math Board
- I added a second Math Board created by the District Math Leads. You might find an activity on one of the boards you would like to try.
Photos
- Send along pictures of any of the activities you do. I would love to see them and will add them to our class page to share with the rest of the class.
I am available throughout the day by e-mail or phone if you have any questions or need support with activities. I am here to help, so please reach out for anything you need. lisa.sullivan@nbed.nb.ca 627-4074
