Good Morning Grade 2!

I hope that everyone had a fun day yesterday! It was a little colder yesterday, but today looks like it will warm up a little.

Here are some activities you can work on today.

Orange Homework Books

  • Read – Choose a book to read from the reading bag. Use your strategies to help with the reading and record the book on the log sheet.
  • Spelling – Week 8 - The focus this week is on the /o/ and /e/ vowel sounds that say their own name in shorter words. Go over the words, practice spelling them out loud.
  • Math – Sheet – Word Problems and Counting in Different Ways – Read each word problem and solve it. Use your strategies to help. Counting by 2s to 40 and backwards by 10s from 100.

Home Learning Pack – Week 2

  • Word Work – Sheet – Blends - /sh/ and /ch/. Look at each picture and say the word. Do you hear /sh/ or /ch/ at the beginning? Read the story at the bottom. Highlight the words in the story that have a /ch/ or a /sh/.
  • Math – Warm Up – Count and Move! – Put on a Jack Hartman Video, or count and move on your own. Try counting by 5s to 100, or as high as you can go.
  • Math – Facts – Pick 1 box/set of facts from the orange sheet and work on it.
  • Math Game – Try Go Fish – Facts For 11 – This one is in the purple folder on the Math Card and Dice Games Board, in Your Home Learning Kit that was sent home at the beginning of the year.
  • Writing Making Your Own Book – There is a blank book to use in your pack. Yesterday you came up with a title and ideas for your book. Today you can start writing and illustrating your book. Each page should tell one idea and the picture should be coloured and go with the writing on the page. Make sure your sentences begin and end properly.
  • Read – Share a story book with someone at home or share one from Tumble Books. The link and passwords are on the class page.

Calendar and Weather

  • Go over the calendar and weather. There is a calendar page added to the Documents section on the class page, or you might have a calendar at home to use. What day of the week is it? How many more days are in this month? What will the date be one week from today?
  • Check the weblink for the weather. Compare the temperatures for the next 7 days. What is the high? What is the low? Will we be getting warmer or colder temperatures?

Technology/On-Line Programs

  • If you have access to a device and have some extra time, you can log on to Squiggle Park or Dream Box Math and play.
  • Codes are on the front cover of your agendas if you have them home. If not, I e-mailed them to you. Let me know if there is any trouble accessing them.

Home Learning Kits

  • Just a reminder that you can also use materials from the Home Learning Kit that was sent home at the beginning of the year if you are looking for extra activities.
  • There are lots of math games you can play with your family too.

Outdoor Play/Physical Activity

  • If it is a nice day try to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, go sliding or just play in the snow.
  • If it’s too cold, check Mrs. Dickson’s page for some fun Phys. Ed activities.

STEAM Time

  • Check the STEAM Choice Board under the Documents Tab. Try to do 1 activity during the week. Maybe try the winter scavenger hunt if you haven’t done that.

ASD-N Cross-Curricular BINGO Card

  • There is a BINGO Card with lots of different activities to try from our ASD-N Leads.
  • You might find some activities here that you would like to try out.

Photos

  • Send along pictures of any of the activities you do. I would love to see them and will add them to our class page to share with the rest of the class.

Pick Up – Home Learning Packs – Week 3

  • Parents/Guardians will be able to pick up Home Learning Packs for Week 3 on Friday January 21st from 12:30 – 3:30PM. If this time does not work for you, please let me know and we can arrange another time.
