Hi Everyone!

Welcome Back! I hope you had a fun weekend! We are almost at the end of November!! The temperatures are getting colder and we are expecting some snow this week. Please make sure you are dressed for the weather. It is time for hats and mittens and you will need your snow pants to play in the snow!

Phys. Ed - Our Phys. Ed days this week are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Library - Our Library day is on Thursday. Make sure you bring your book back so you can sign out another one.

Homework/Reading - The homework for the week is listed in the orange folders. Our spelling words this week focus on the short /u/ vowel sound and the word work activity is on this too. With writing we are working on adding details to our sentences and making sure they begin and end the right way. Use the pictures to help write a detailed sentence. In math we are working on counting in different ways and using strategies to help with adding. How quick can you do your doubles? Make sure you read a book each night and record it on the log sheet. Use your strategies to help with your reading.

Report Cards - Report cards will be going home on Tuesday November 30th. Please sign the comment sheet and return it in the envelope to the school.

Parent/Teacher Phone Interviews - Parent/Teacher interviews will be done by phone. There is a form in the report envelope to fill out for an interview and time that works best for you. Please fill it out and return in the report envelope to the school. Interviews will be done on Thursday December 2nd, afternoon/evening and Friday December 3rd, in the morning.

No School - There is no school for students on Friday December 3rd. The morning will be for Parent/Teacher Phone Interviews and the afternoon is a Professional Learning Day for teachers.

Fundraising - Just a reminder that all pledge money is due back on Tuesday November 30th. The Prize Assembly will be held later in December.

Literacy - With Word Work we will be starting to focus on the long vowels and blends. Keep working on your sight words and spelling words. This will help with our reading and writing. We have started focusing on the 6+1 Writing Traits. We are learning all about ideas and details. We are adding more to our writing and using detailed pictures to help. Our reading is improving and we are working on different strategies to help with reading. We have been finding out more about non-fiction and are reading some different books about animals. The students are going to start writing their own book about an animal of their choice.

Math - Mrs. Dalton has started working with us this week and we are finding out about Math Workshop. We have started working with money, counting by 5s, 2s starting at 1 and 10s starting at numbers from 1 to 9. We will also be using mental math strategies to help with adding and subtracting.

Have a super week Grade 2!
