Hello there, Kinders! I hope that you had a fun weekend with your family and friends and got to spend some time outside in the sun.

School Rules and Bus Safety- We have been having some very good discussions about how we can be safe at school when we are on the bus, playing in the playground, eating in the cafeteria and working and playing together in class and the gym. I sent home a copy of the I-CARE rules and will be reviewing the school bus safety rules this week (look for a copy in the student folder). Please review these rules with your child. Thanks!!

Literacy- We have been "getting to know" each other better, through songs, games and discussions of our favourite colours, snacks, family, pets, etc. The children are learning each others names and letters they start with. This week we will begin our Zoo-phonics language program, a copy will be going home and I would like for you to review each letter action and sound throughout the week. We will review this daily in class and will learn each letter\sound and animal action. We start with the letter Aa and the animal Allie Alligator. We will also be focusing on rhyme. We will be playing a lot of fun rhyming games that focus on identifying and generating rhyme. You can practice rhyme with your child at home, for ex. ask your child what rhymes with cat, dog, shoe and bug, See if they can give you more than one response for each word. Listen to the Raffi song,"Down by the Bay" at this link- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CSxGHve60E

Math- We have been sorting many different items by a simple rule such as, colour, shape, size, etc. We have also begun creating and continuing a basic pattern.Have fun trying these activities at home with your child.

Library- Every Tuesday we will go to the library. Please return your book to school, in the ziplock bag each week, so you will be able to sign out a new book. Thanks and happy reading.

Phys. Ed. ClassesWe have gym classes every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with Mrs. Comeau. K-2 students do not change clothes for gym class. So wear comfy clothes to run and exercise in.

Lunch orders- If your child is ordering lunch, please write out their order on a piece of paper with their name and money in a baggie or wallet and put in their agenda or folder. Thanks!

Remember to pack your water bottle and bring extra mask to class with you.

We would like to send a big Nelson Rural welcome to Arlo, who has joined our class. We are so happy to have Arlo with us. We had a fabulous first week together!

I am looking forward to seeing all of my little Kinders. Lets's have a fun week in Kindergarten!! Smile and be kind to each other!!! :) Mrs. Sullivan-Goguen
