Wow, can you believe it, we are at the end of November and moving into December! We have a four day week, as Friday, December 2nd is a Professional Learning day for Teachers, so there is NO SCHOOL for Students.
This week in Kindergarten,
Literacy- Read your Borrow-A-Books each night. You will have 3 books this week. Be sure to read 1 or 2 books each night. Please continue to read the ABC Letter Tracing Book, especially if your child still does recognize every letter\sound. With your finger, trace each letter by following the arrows. Say each letter name as you trace bothe the upper and lower letter.Say the letter sound and animal name.ex.Aa alligator. When your child recognizes all the letters, then focus on the letter sounds. As students read the three books, have them point to each word and stop at the period.Use the pictures for cues to help identify the words. Students should be recognizing some familiar sight words like: I,am, see, a, the, to, at, go,like,me. Please remember to fill in the reading log each night and have your child print their name. Please return all books, even the paper books your child has coloured, in the borrow-a-book bag,on Thursday
Rock Star Words- Some students will be taking home the first list of sight words. These students know all or most letters\sounds and recognize a few words in print. Students should be able to say these words quickly and recognize the word as soon as they see it. The words are familiar words found in the borrow-a-books they read each night. Please see the list in the document page. When your child knows all words quickly. please sign the sheet and return it to class. I will test your childs knowledge and send the second list home. Please know that all children learn at their own pace, and the children are seeing these words daily in the books we read, our morning message, games and activities we play. When your child is ready for the sight word list, I will send it home.
Library- We visit the library on Thursday. Keep the book for the week and return it the following Thursday. Please send the book back in the bag. Thanks! Happy reading!
