Week #1

Posted: September 6, 2024

It has been a busy week, and I am sure everyone is looking forward to the first weekend. There were sleepy kids (and teachers) at school today. I just have a few housekeeping notes to pass along.

1. Supplies  My English Language Arts (ELA) classes will be leaving the majority of their materials in the classroom, so I have asked the students to bring in a courier bag or something equivalent to keep everything together.

I would like the students that I teach Social Studies to (7H & 6W) to have a 1in binder. We will be organizing our materials into strands, and it is easier to add paper and pages to a binder.

2. Homework

All ELA students are expected to read for 15-20 min. per day, approx. 1 1/2hrs per week, at home. They will have a reading log and short assignments to complete. They will also be expected to do book talks which they should practice at home. Generally, they should be able to finish their work in class so homework will be minimal.

Social Studies - Students should be able to finish their work in class. They will occasionally have some studying or catch-up work to do. Some students will choose to do extra work to supplement their mark and much of this will need to be done in their own time.
