ROE Walkathon Scheduled For May 20th!

Posted: May 19, 2011

On Friday, May 20th at 8:30 the students and staff of Nelson Rural School will participate in an In motion Walkathon. We hope that Kristy & Sydney Stewart, our ROE mom and baby as well as Cynthia Hillier, our ROE instructor will also join us.  This event will raise awareness of the Roots of Empathy program and help provide funds for the training of community volunteers as instructors. The mission of Roots of Empathy is to build caring, peaceful and civil societies, child by child,  through the development of empathy in children. Empathy is caught not taught and children who have empathy are less likely to bully others and are more likely to be nice to be nice to people. Our school has had this program for 4 years and there are currently 16 programs in District 16 and 2 First Nation communities in our region. Since 2002,  13,000 students in New Brunswick have experienced the program. There will be a prize or a wood carving by local areal artist Gloria Savoie for the school that raises the most funds as well as a prize for the student who raises the most money.
