Earth Rangers' visit to Nelson Rural School was a big success. Mark and Josh brought our animal friends: Daisy (skunk), Maverik (American Kestrel), Kookatoo (Kookaburra), and Hook (Red-tailed Hawk) to enducate us on the importance of helping to protect animals in the wild. The Kookaburra entertained us with its laugh, while Marverik and Hook showed off their flying skills above our heads. It was a great presentation and they encourage all of us to become Earth Rangers. Please take a look at the brochure sent home for more information on this program.
Students will be attending this assembly on First Nations Culture for the morning. This is a cultural and social gathering including drumming, dancing, and song.
Because of the end time of the assembly, we are asking K-2 students to bring a bag lunch on Friday as they will not be using the cafeteria on this day. It would also be helpful if their snack was labelled with their name so the teacher can hang on to it for them.
Edgewater Embroidery is currently taking orders for school clothing. A flyer will be sent home with items and prices. Orders can be submitted at the office, or at Edgewater Embroidery (53 Gorman Blvd) before March 2nd.
Orders will also be taken in person at the school on Thursday, February 15th from 11-2.
Nelson Rural School kicked off their annual spell-a-thon fundrasier on February 1st. Students are now collecting pledges until Tuesday, February 13th. The spell-a-thon will take place on Thursday, February 15th, and all pledges are to be passed in BY February 28th. Nelson Rural had a great visit from the JMH Tommies! They came to read to our students and gave out a published Tommie book to each homeroom classroom. They also had gifts for the students and gave them each a colouring book! We would like to thank JMH Tommies for coming and sharing kindness with our students. They came to greet our young Tommies and the students were very excited to see the Mascot as well!
Thank you again for spreading Kindness to our students especially before the holidays! See the full image gallery for more photos!
Local 1387 from Public Works and Recreation gave Nelson Rural School a generous donation to help pay it forward by means of supporting our annual Christmas Families.
