November 10th- Home Learning

Posted: November 10, 2021

Good morning!

Here is what I would like everyone to work on today:

Writing:Please watch the video, The Poppy Story on YouTube.

It can be found here:The Poppy Story (First Level & up). - YouTube

While watching the video, write down three interesting facts that you learned.

After you have watched the video, work on writing a thank you letter to a person who works in the military. Thank them for everything they continue to do to keep Canada and the world a safe place to live. The document is attached below.

Reading: Please listen to the story, The Soldier’s Puppy on YouTube.

The read aloud can be found here: The Soldier's Puppy - YouTube

If you can, retell the story to someone at home. If not, think about the story on your own. Who were the main characters? What happened? How did the story start? How did it end?

Please read another book, or books for 20 minutes. Record what you have read in your log.

Math: Warm up- think of all the ways you can make the number 24 and write them down. I want you to think of at least 10 different ways. Think of addition, subtraction, multiplication and even division if you are up for the challenge! Also, think about how you could draw this number using base ten blocks. EX: _ + _ = 24 or _ - _ = 24.

The Snack Shack Menu worksheet: Please work on the snack shack menu math sheet in your ‘Home Learning’ packet. Remember to bring this back to school with you when we go back.

Dreambox (20 minutes):You can sign in to your Dreambox account and work on your assigned lessons. Your login information is in your ‘Home Learning’ packet.

ART: Create your own poppy using only the materials that you have at home, such as markers, pencil crayons, crayons, paint, and pastels, to name a few suggestions. When you are done, place your design on the fridge or somewhere in your home to remind yourself and the people you live with about the importance of the poppy and all that it symbolizes.

Here is a link that lists eight different ideas that you can do for Remembrance Day. I challenge all of you to see if you can find at least one activity to participate in. I believe a lot of you would enjoy #4… creating a peace crane!

Check it out: 8 things you can do for Remembrance Day | Explore | Awesome Activities & Fun Facts | CBC Kids

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day. It is a day to pause and reflect on everything that our Canadian Veterans, Soldiers, Peace Keepers and Forces have fought for. I would ask everyone to take time out of their day to have a moment of silence and to say thank you to everyone that has fought for our country and for our freedom.

I hope to see you soon grade four, I miss seeing everyone’s big smiles! It is my wish that everyone is staying healthy and active! Try to spend most of your day outside and breath in the fresh air! It will make you feel better.

Feel free to share any of your work during the day, you can send it to me at abby.sullivan@nbed.nb.ca. I enjoy reading your stories and looking at what you came up with for all the other activities. If not, remember to keep everything together and bring it to school with you when we go back.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, I will be happy to help!

Have a great day!

Ms. Sullivan
