Welcome Back

Posted: January 28, 2022

We want to welcome back all students to face to face learning beginning Monday, January 31st.  Here are a few important points for our school community:

  • Cafeteria will be open for purchases
  • Cafeteria will be running at Level 2 operation as stated in the GNB Winter Plan which means capacity has to be reduced by half.  Therefore, many students will be eating in their classrooms.  Microwaves will be available, but for convenience we would ask that microwave items be limited as much as possible.  Please do not send anything that requires more than 1 minute heating (popcorn, KD cups, and some frozen dinners take too long to prepare).
  • PE classes (grades 3-8) and recess breaks will primarily be outside (unless it's extremely cold) so make sure the kids are properly dressed (boots, snow pants, heavy gloves and winter coat). Plus, the snow hills are gigantic now so we will be getting out to play!
  • Any students who borrowed devices from the school in this latest round of home learning is asked to return them on Monday.
  • Any work that was assigned in the past 3 weeks is expected to be completed so teachers can assess student learning.  Students might be asked to attend study groups at recess times or other times during their day to get work completed.  We are asking parents to be supportive in our attempts to help students catch up.
  • It is important that students wear proper fitting masks to school.  We have noticed many masks are too big or have become stretched over time. Please discuss proper mask-use with your child prior to their return on Monday.
  • All students should have at least one spare mask at school.
  • All students and staff will be continuously masking while indoors with the exception of when they are seated for eating and drinking.
  • K-5 students will be placed in zones (class bubbles) for recess time so they will not be required to mask while outside.  Grades 6-8 will be required to mask while outside as they are mixing with other class bubbles.
  • Schools are currently following the provincial protocols for isolation and tracing. There is no additional requirements for testing beyond what is stated by public health. People who test positive must notify their close contacts, so this would include the school if your child tests positive.  Please notify us if your child tests positive. Cases in schools will now be posted on the ASD-N Covid-19 Dashboard.  EVERYONE in our school community is asked to continuously monitor for symptoms, isolate and test if even one symptom develops. If there is a case in the household, everyone must isolate for 5 days (fully vaccinated with no symptoms. If symptoms develop, continue to isolate up to an additional 5 days), 10 days (unvaccinated).  If a family member tests positive while isolating, their isolation period starts on the day of their positive test.
