The Nelson Rural School Garden Club conitnues to grow!
This year, almost every class in our school did some form of growing inside, whether they used used Click and Grow smart gardens, built their own grow light towers and planted seedlings that were placed in window sills.
Last week our students had the opportunity to work with local gardener/farmer Melanie Dickson, who donated a full day, to teach each K-5 class how to properly transplant their seedling to grow outdoors for the summer. The students were thrilled to get their hands dirty and plant their crops that will turn into healthy, fresh vegetables to be used in our cafeteria after harvest.
The Nelson Rural School Garden Club will be looking for families to sign up to help tend to our community garden throughout the summer. We meet every Monday to do some weeding, watering and other general maintenance. It is a great way to get some exercise a family, build community, and teach our youth about sustainability. A sign-up letter will be sent home shortly, but if you would like to sign up for the garden club, please email carla.dickson@nbed.nb.ca
