Our yearly fire prevention assembly will be held on Monday at 9:00am in our gym. Each year we welcome the firemen and women to come and teach our children how to be safe if a fire ever breaks out.  There are a few information sheets that will be sent home to help you review what to do and how to plan to get our and stay safe. This will be fun for each family to talk about as the kids are really eager to learn all about fire safety.

Math GamesAt the bottom of my teacher page on the right hand side is a sub title called Web Links.  There is a link to a game called Simon Says. This would be a fun way to practise patterns for Math. Hope you visit this site and have some fun with it.

This week at Nelson Rural School we will be having our Terry Fox walk on Friday at 1:00pm.  All last week we read about what a great Canadian he is and how he is a Differene Maker.  Terry never gave up on any dreams in his life. So come on out and walk with us and show your support as well.

Each year we have pen pals in grade two from Dallas Texas. THis year we will begin to communicate with them starting this week. Our weekly Skype Session will be on Thursday at 10:45.  Here we will share our weather in Canada and also let them know what is happening at our school that is special to us.  This is a great opportunity to learn about other people in the world and see how they live their lives. This also allows us to learn in a real life setting which makes learning more fun and real for the students.  We have had much success over the years with this project and we can't wait to get started with our friends again this year. Stay tuned for our up coming class letter we will be sending to them as well as the letter we will be receiving from them.
HomeworkEach week we will have a small amount of homework that consists of a weekly spelling list, a borrow a book each night and a homework page that covers Math concepts or Language Arts concepts that the students have already learned and know how to do. So if homework takes a major amount of time there is a problem somewhere and I want to know about it so we can work together to solve it.  Some families like to do all the pages in one night and others do one page per night. It is totally up to you as long as it gets done by Friday that is fine with me. Spelling- This week we are working on the short /i/ sound. There are 10 words that each student should study each night as he have a weekly spelling test on Fridays.   Math - We have been learning about Patterns. There are two kinds of patterns we have been studying and the first being Repeating patterns. An example of this would be  123  123  123. The other type of patterns is called Increasing patterns. We have been working with numbers and counting in a variety of different ways and as well as using blocks and other materials. Practise at home would be helpful in all of our Math concepts and it can be fun too!!! You and Your World - We have been going over Safety rules for School especially on the playground. We have already had a few mishaps that involved our class and we hope our older grade two students will set the example of how to play and be safe from now on.  Also we have learned about bicycle safety and are now moving on to learn about Terry Fox and Rick Hansen .

LibraryThis year our library day is on Friday. So could you please make sure your books are brought back by then. Also another important part is that we need to keep care of our books by transporting them back and forth to school in their plastic bags so they will return as good as new.

Thomas' mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters had a final visit today and she brought in a treat.  We all would like to thank her for all the treats she brought in all year long.  Also for her kindness and time she gave too.
