The past two days in Grade 8K and 8B: (Silent Sustained Reading and response - 15 minutes each day)
- We reviewed Public Speaking Types of Delivery: Formal/Informal Speech, Spoken Word Poetry we discussed and saw an examples of the strengths/speaking strategies in each.
- We chose our speech delivery type and brainstorm topic ideas, including funneling our top two ideas to be more specific and focused.
- We learned about finding accurate and legitimate websites, and how to source where our information comes from, including puting words into our own words and stating who said the quotations we used on our Research Note Organizer - Website (located under documents on this teacher page).
- Today we reviewed using our finding vocabulary in context organizer, and main idea map for determining importantce, with a new article of the week. This time we looked for 3-5 words we were unsure of and 3-4 main ideas individually. This assignment will be completed during Monday's class, including a class debrief discussion.
Homework/Reminders: Read 30 minutes, log and respond. Fill out vocabulary in context chart as you find words.

Today in Grade 7P and 7H: (Silent Sustained Reading and response - 15 minutes)
- Vocabulary in Context: Students were given a Finding Vocabulary in Context organizer (which is also under documents on this teacher page) and were asked to fill out any new words found in today's reading.
- We wrote a quick write for our idea page on The Awesome and Not So Awesome things in life.
- We reviewed Public Speaking Types of Delivery: Formal/Informal Speech, Spoken Word Poetry and today we discussed and saw an example of formal presenation.
- We began to talk about choosing our speech delivery type and brainstorm topic ideas.
Homework/Reminders: Read 30 minutes, log and respond. Fill out vocabulary in context chart as you find words.
- All persuasive argument/essay rubrics are to be signed as well as Reading Notebook/Binder rubric to signed.
